Actually, there are a lot of games that play without cops or doctors. The idea is that "follow the cop" where the Cop investigates and the Doctor always protects the Cop is too powerful and makes it extremely difficult for the mafia to win. A lot of mods will leave one of the roles out or make the cop a "Macho Cop" that is unaffected by Doctor protections.
Also, it's statistically bad for a vigilante to shoot every night. A smart vigilante player would save their bullet(s) until they're sure they can hit mafia. Better for a vigilante to die without firing a shot than to kill townsfolk and get the mafia that much closer to a victory.
Yes, I forgot. SKs are not possible if there are only town and mafia factions. Also his later post limits it to two factions, so there is only one mafia.
But there could still be a vigilante, and by the way I agree with WoW to an extent -- random shooting is a bad, bad idea for a vigilante, and IMO that's pretty much what a Night 1 kill would have been. If I was the vigilante, though (which I'm not), "sure" would be a significant overstatement of how confident I would have to be before firing away.
