Bear in mind that the majority of people who own MW2 started playing CoD with CoD4, or perhaps even later.

It's the new Counter-Strike.
Modern Warfare is the first high quality / high budget game that has capitalized on some things that made Counter-Strike so popular - the setting (modern weapons) and the gameplay (fast kills -> twitch combat). It isn't a coincidence that CoD's popularity skyrocketed when IW took the series out of WWII, and into the present.
Some major differences, like the lack of rounds or its focus on consoles have made it more accessible. Throw in a few other "improvements" (perks, leveling system, kill streak, graphics), and you get a massively popular game.

MW2 is like the new moon of video games for girls. I never realized it was so popular with girls until I had all these female friends updating their facebook about getting MW2. It's crazy. I know so many girls that play it. I've never come across one online though. I think that's cuz it seems like most girls are afraid to use a mic for obvious reasons...

I'd say MW2 has an overall best concept and depth of the COD series(for online that is). However I felt COD4 was perfected and fine tuned much better than MW2. If MW2 wasn't so popular and they were able to push back the release date I think it could have been the best COD game by far. I'd still say COD4 was a better game though.

as soon as i get my own PS3, i'll be gettin MW2 and a mic, so that i can laugh at the guys i pwn

Well, I agree! I never said otherwise.
Call of Duty is probably more accessible, though, which was what my post was about.

so i hate cod. but i love bad company and halo though they are much harder than cod. not liking cod is not because you can't play well.
