i liked competition, i think Microsoft will do a better job at getting the casual audience then Sony, i mean if i never played games for 15 years and im a new gamer i will be interested in natal

NATAL and the Wand have the big fatal flaw, its not the tech, but the software, and they are too focused on the tech and not on the software needed to push NATAL and the wand
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
natal wins i think i mean compare a wii mote wwhich needs a reciever on your TV or on your table so it can detect the mote and natal which would revolutionise fighting games, rpg, rts and tv shows etc.......
you realize there is no real "war" ?
Nintendo makes most of their money from device sales (Wii and the wii fit device ) and mostly third party games,
look at the game sales except the first few ones , wii is not really a good platform for games, you can at best get 4 million, unless you "innovate" how wii fit did, and the attach rate is rather low, but you can consider they did a good job.
now the real "war" is between microsoft and sony, but sony did push bluray thanks to ps3 with will bring them lots of cash, now they are pushing ps3 as well, and since it has no piracy and probably won't have any for at least 2 years they will milk it better than microsoft :)
In regards to overall hardware and software sales and profitability - Nintendo has the unbeatable advantage over both Microsoft and Sony for this generation due to the popularity of the Wii mainly selling to casual gamers.
In regards to better graphics in games, better overall game quality (X360 and PS3 both more AAA games than the Wii on Metacritic and Gamerankings), selling more multi-platform games and better online services. Microsoft and Sony have the edge over Nintendo.
The introduction of gimmicky devices to win over the casual gamer market may come at a cost at driving away the hardcore gamer market and developers may be forced to just make casual games. Casual games are a quick cash in with minimal cost, time and effort put into game development. Lose a few consumers (hardcore gamers) but pick up a lot more consumers (casual gamers) to expand overall market share and increase profitability. Microsoft's Natal and Sony's wand toy are trying desperately to cash in on the Wii's success.
It appears Microsoft and Sony have given up and accepted the Wii has won with Wii remote by making their own products to win over the casual gamers and to expand market share that has been lost to the Wii this generation. Microsoft's Natal and Sony's wand toy are trying desperately to cash in on the Wii's success.
The battle in regards to console sales was over a long time ago. The horse has bolted and too much ground has been lost.
| trashleg said: in answer to the thread title.. i reckon so. so many people have a PS3 or a 360, all it takes is the promise of one good game.. then someone buys it "just to see", then word of mouth gets around.. then before you know it, everyone is bigging up the Wand/Natal of course there will be your bog-standard novelty crap released, but i think the fact that Sony, for instance, are said to have announced only one game with Wand compatibility is a good thing... different gamers want different things, so it looks to me like Sony will be releasing more standard-controller games. Yay XD |
Yea also dont forget about the internet or youtube, people will be raving and foaming at the mouth lol, unless it totally sucks monkey ballz hmm, which probably wont be the case. Anyhoo, Sony has 2 games, you forgot about RE5 alternate edition.
Judging by your preference for standard controller, you have zero interest in Natal, or secretly excited? ^_^

I know that you might not think of a proper answer rightaway, but my question is how could Natal actually revolutionize gaming? By all means it's got the possibilities to do so but will things like Natal software actually become mainstream stuff in the near future?
And this is no trolling or meant to cause ppl offence but playing Natal stuff makes you look retarded. I laughed so hard when I saw a member from here (cant remember who) who had a Natal GIF in his sig section and that gif was about a girl making a demonstration of dodging balls during the Natal Presentation at E3. I could watch that all day and just laugh at how retarded it looked playing it. But hey as long as you enjoy playing it, that wouldn't matter. But that's just my take on Natal. Good piece of technology. God I love Tech. :)
So having said that Natal has the possibilities and stand a chance, I'm not too sure about Sony's Wand.
I mean, it's works in a similar fashion to the WiiMote so there's no sign of revolution there and not much originality either. But having said that, if developers are willing to integrate good use of the Wand in future good PS3 games and produce new IPs with it, then I think it would be harder for people to decide whether to get a Wii or a PS3 with Motion Wand and maybe people will consider the PS3 more. But then we have to consider that hopefully the Motion Wand doesn't feel 'tacked' onto the games like the random Sixaxis functions in some PS3 games.
Same thing applies to Natal. If good quality 360 games want to integrate Natal into their games, then people don't want to feel that Natal was just tacked on. EG Fable III where Molyneux said he's willing to use Natal in the sequel. He needs to make sure it's feels as if it's worthy to be used in the game, instead of turning out to be a useless function.

Like papflesje I too have erased that horrible video of Resident Evil 5 with Sony's wand where the dude was using a DualShock as a nunchuck from my mind...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)
Neither motion controller is going to do anything truly Wii-threatening, i don't think. Software is where both are going to fall flat. Sony's idea seems to be to either patch motion controls into existing games, or to release more Eye-Toy-esque stuff. Neither of which is a real recipe for success
As for Natal, Microsoft seems to be killing their own hype machine, banning all footage of the thing in action. They are defying the preachings of Cowboy Jed, and his righteous exhortation to "look at the footage."
Their sacrilege shall not go unpunished.
Both companies could surprise us, of course. There's quite some time before Natal comes out for the situation to change, and we still know so little about the Wand and it's software lineup. But that's the situation as it stands.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
@ OP - The PSwand launch lineup does look untreatening to the Wii, but to claim there is only 1 game for it is just plain wrong.
A number of games have been announced to include support for the Motion Controller, including:[17]
Ape Escape (working title)
Echochrome 2 (working title)
Eccentric Slider (working title)
Sing and Draw (working title)
Champions of Time (working title)
Motion Party (working title)
Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition[23]
The Shoot (working title)
Tower (working title)
Under Siege[24]
In addition, support for the Motion Controller will be added through software updates to various other titles, such as LittleBigPlanet,[25] Pain, Flower, Hustle Kings, High Velocity Bowling, and EyePet.[17]
9 games designed around the PSwand
1 game is having a new release for it
6 games are having support patched in
The number of games is not the problem. 17 at launch sure beats WM+, which had about 5 WM+ capable games when WSR launched.
The problem is that of the 17 games, 8 are just ports of dual analogue games. they are slightly easier to control than before, but they don't offer gameplay experiences that were unavailable with conventional controls.
The other 9 games we know little about. And that is part of the problem. There is no big exciting software that people are getting excited about.
