That's the fourth one this year.

Add FF13, and it will be FIVE perfect games in one year. Really?

Famitsu has become a joke.

Because we have 4 excellent games this year? It's soooooo difficult to accept this fact?

@edit: And LOL look at what you are saying. Final Fantasy is quality franchise, it will be an excellent game for sure. FF13 probably will deserve a high score and if you see a 40 you will go crazy saying "OMG Famitsu is a crap now" and you will completely forget that Final Fantasy is an excellent franchise. Come on.. where is the sense here?

The fact is that the game industry is evolving, it's more easy to make an excellent game now than before, and you can't blame Famitsu if we have a lot of great titles this year. They won't make excuses to give a low score for a game just to make the magazine seem more severe (like EDGE), if the game deserves 10 they will give a 10.

I'm not denying that there are five excellent games this year. There are far more than that.

But if FIVE games this year are "perfect", then standards need to be raised.

I wonder what NSMB Wii. did wrong as a platformer or what Monster Hunter 3 did wrong as a MMO for the Wii or what Bayonetta did wrong as a Hack and slash. Bayonetta has a bad gameplay for a hack and slash? bad effects? Bad combos? Bad bosses? Bad storyline? Hell no!

10 is just the highest score, it doesn't mean that the game is perfect. Speaking of what those 4 games were supposed to do, we can't really say that they did something wrong. It's like Nintendogs... as a pet simulator it did nothing wrong and deserved a 40 as a pet simulator.

Say a hack and slash releases in 6 months, and it's better than Bayonetta. What happens then?

In a 10 point scale, there is a large difference between 9 and 10. If Famitsu had always given 40s this often, it wouldn't be so bad. But in 2008 and 2009 alone, it has given out more perfect scores than 1998-2007 combined. So the games in these two years have been better than the games in those nine?

If you didn't found money (in the middle of the street) in your entire life and you find $10 in three days consecutives for pure coincidence, will you think that someone is secretly giving money to you?

Famitsu can't wait 5 years to give a 40... if a great game is released this year and it deserves 40 they will give. In your mind developers should wait 4 years to release an excellent game, so they won't release 4 excellent games at the same time.

I thought of an analogy:

You have ten lottery rollovers, and then 10 people win at the same time in the next round.

Yeah, it's not impossible but it will be random (like my example) different from reviews because developers can actually make excellent games at the same time, it's very normal this generation thanks to our actual technology.

Actually, it's even worse than that, since Famitsu has been around since 1986.  So your phrase should be: So the games in these two years have been better than the games in those twenty-one?

But I don't blame them for this, really. Obviously they have changed their standards to better fit reality.

This is invisible text!

But does it deserve a perfect score? I like it a lot but it's far from perfect.

OMG what a surprise!!!

I think that the argument that "the game is great at what it's supposed to do" is a fitting one here.

New Super Mario Bros Wii may not have the highest production values, the biggest budget, the most voice acting, the best graphics or the most epic story, but it is by far the best 2d platformer i have ever played and the most fun ive had in a very long time.

i actually want to replay this game even though i haven't beaten it yet, i begin from the start everytime i play with my bros&sis or with my friends, i replayed the first world lots of times just for fun. i can't say ive done that with a game since i played Super mario world back in the day, not even with super mario galalxy. it's that much fun :)

even my best friend (HD fanboy) who usually refuses to appreciate any Wii game won't let me play without him (of course i lie and play all day long by myself, lol)

I'll only say this once:

10/10 DOES NOT MEAN THE GAME IS 'PERFECT'. IT MEANS IT IS AN EXCELLENT, EXTRAORDINARY GAME.

Geez.
