Yeah I played them all. There is actually a 4th one on Dreamcast and PS1...all of them I thought were average at best. I did play the first one after Resident evil 1 so maybe that took away from its innovation.

Alone in the Dark is one of those games that hasn't aged well at all - you've pretty much had to play it when it came out to have the so called "full experience". When it was released, it was one of those games that could be legitimately scary at times, especially when played with absolutely no help from outside sources. And while it had a slew of issues, calling it average is a bit harsh - it's basically one of the progenitors of the survival horror genre.
And personally, after playing games like the original AITD, Resident Evil games just felt bland. But to each their own, I guess.
