Guitar Hero, De Blob, Boom Blox, Carnival Games, Game Party,  Mario and Sonic, Link's Crossbow Training, Big Brain Academy, Lego Star Wars, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Deca Sports, The Rayman series, Call of Duty: World at War all have incredible legs. I really could have named 20 more games, but I got tired of listing.

In short, you're just flat out wrong.

With the holiday season at our doorsteps and Wii sales starting to see big rises, I'd wait to comment about NSMBW sales. I think we can see where the game may go sales wise after January. Reminds me of a user complaining about first week Wii Fit Plus sales (I mean, come on! )

But yeah, excellent sales for MW2 and Assassin's Creed. Well done.

Is this the UK chart meltdown that was predicted a couple of weeks ago

Here's some games released before the holiday season last year which have sold more than a million this year.

Wii games with "Teh Legs!"

Wii Fit (April/May 2008) 9,100,000 this year
Mario Kart Wii (April 2008) 5,400,000 this year
Wii Play (December 2007) 4,460,000 this year
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (March 2008) 1,050,000 this year

360 games with "Teh Legs!"

Halo 3 (September 2007) 1,400,000 this year
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (November 2007) 1,010,000 this year

This is just for consoles (PS3 didn't have any that I saw...) but those are just the big boys. There's plenty more where that came from if we even go into the 900k's and 800k's for games released before the holiday season of last year.

Great start for Assassin's Creed 2, NSMB Wii, and Left 4 Dead 2. I don't think anyone expected them not to though. And according to the MVC article, Wii is continuing to have sales explode in that of UK with a lot of it due to the limited edition black Wii.


Now I see a lot of SILLY posts so let me correct something. All Wii games don't have legs. ACTUALLY, the majority of games don't have legs. It's never the case for really anything. But big mainstream products are generally able to sell over long periods of time. Take Halo 3 for instance. This is a huge mainstream property, especially in that of America. Thus it has been able to sell continuously over long periods of time... it will have a good holiday season as well to continue that. Super Smash Bros Brawl is another great example of this which is following similar trends.

People use legs as a way to justify when a game levels off. If your game is selling 10k a week that is not legs. That is nowhere near it. Games that sell well over time are ones that continue to sell well after the holiday season (NSMB DS, Mario Kart, Halo 3) and get HUGE boosts during that of the holiday season. Most of you can't name that many titles when you see those qualifications and that is the point. This is legs... a game that continues to sell like it was just released and that is what those kinds of titles do. That is why Halo is over 10 million, and Mario Kart and NSMB DS are coming in on 20 million. They have huge mainstream appeal.

For the case of NSMB Wii and Modern Warfare 2, it is no doubt that both are huge mainstream properties. I don't think too many will argue what is a bigger mainstream property, but both are going to sell well over a good 2 years to come... just like past games in both franchises have done. Which will end up selling more? Well considering MW2 is on multiple platforms it's a little unfair to discuss but still both will have great sales this holiday season tied in with their huge openers along with continued sales for the next couple of years.
