How big is Amazon as video game retailers go?

I buy most of my video games online, and most of that has been through Amazon lately. People used to bitch about the $60 price point of new games, but Amazon has had some great promotions lately offering a $10 - $20 coupon on future game purchases which makes it all the more tempting. Saving the sales tax is also nice, and I pick the free shipping since I don't need it release day.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Probably pretty big, not the largest, but I'd probably guess WW they'd be in the top 5, at worst in the top 10

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I support Amazon.com's video game sales singlehandedly.

Amazon has about 3 percent marketshare

Is that WW or just NA?  And how is that relative to other companies?

I'd like to know how big Wal-Mart is, they must get a big chunk of the marketshare

Gamestop has the biggest share overall, followed by BestBuy, Walmart, Target, etc. Amazon is definitely only a few percent, just by looking at the discrepancy between Amazon.com and NPD/VGC sales.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Walmart may be bigger than anyone (maybe ioi can clarify), but they definitely are the biggest retailer in the US for general goods. You left out ToysRus too which is a huge portion of Nintendo sales. Back when Wii/DS were sold out all the time they were the place to go to find a system as they got the largest shipments.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

It's because people can't wait and want instant gratification.

Meaning they will go into Game or Gamestation and pay £50 rather than waiting an extra couple of days for it to arrive in the post from Amazon and only have to pay £32.

^My son being one of these (when it's his money...if it's mine I insist he gets it from Amazon and waits)

I just bought Afro Samurai from amazon for $12.
