^No your thinking of composite. Component will 100% do 720p which is what virtually all PS3 games are, not sure about 1080p or if Blu-rays would work on it though.

@ ironman )
lol, for long time the 360 only had component and vga, so it's funny to see a 360 user not knowing that component can produce HD signals (up to 1080p, but because of DRM it's usually only supported until 1080i)

It can do 1080P, but most applications only use 1080i even still Componant and SCART are the same thing, just different connectors, and that is the point I was making.
If it's just outside warranty, give Sony a call. They aren't completely heartless.

Well, I rang them today, and actually, I do believe they are that heartless; it'll be £120 to replace it with another refurbished unit.
Er, no.
Eeee, guys do you know about something like Consumer Sales and Guarantees Directive (1999/44/EC)
In European Union you have 2 years of warranty on every electronical equipment. If you bought PS3 in store "X", that store must take full responsibility for every malfunction of your PS3 that occur in that period.
You must check how this directive was implemented in UK's law system.
Every country that participate in EU is abided by the directives and must implement them in its law system in an appropriate way.
