Forums - Nintendo - EA pokes fun at Nintendo!

@ Smashchu2
Every major developer has failed many times over on the Wii. Its hard to predict what they want. The Wii may be 50% of the console userbase but their sales trends are all over the place. From what I can tell, most 3rd party Wii software sales come from the bargain bin. That would explain why many Wii games tend to have good legs.

Shame. Mass We Pray appeals to a 2.2 billion fanbase.

Also, am I the only one here who thinks the bigger story should be that a company is trying to use religion a a 'joke'?  Even going so far as to double onto that tying religion into stereotypes as 'going along with the system' and insinuating that Wii is selling more because people are buying them 'like sheep'.

Reading too much into this?

Also, the fake ad and page, doesn't show or mention either a Wii, a motion controller or anything related.

That's like saying where a guy in a Ruffles commercial pretending to hate eating a bag of chips just labeled 'chips' isn't suppose to represent Lays.  Or a guy in a Pepsi commercial drinking a generic soda labeled 'soda' isn't really drinking Coke.  Just because everything in the commercial wasn't the actual product doesn't mean people won't identify what it was suppose to be.  Why do you think this thread even got made?  And heck, why do you think it was called 'WePray'?

Next thing you know you're going to tell me its okay to market cigarettes to kids again as long as they paint them brown and call them by a different name.  Whatever stupid stunt they wanted to go for with this, they failed and they should suffer some negative PR from it.  Especially if it was just at the expense of trying to generate hype for a game on another console.  That would be like someone making a video of a bunch of generic marines running around shooting people as a fake advertisement for a new 360 game and you found out it was a redirect-link to advertise New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

EA making a tragicly flawed PR attempt? oh no such a shocking development...... who am i kidding i can't keep this up with a stright face. this will go down just another thing that looked like a really good idea on paper, but didn't turn out so well. we seem to be having a lot of those this gen *shrugs*

Nintendo proably could cobble up a case agaisnt EA for misrepresention or some such thing, but there is a 0 to -13 % of them doing it for a whole laundy list of reasons:
-lawers are expensive, why pay them if there is nothing to be gained and you'd most likely lose the case?
-Nintendo is trying to build 3ed party reationships that will grow and be healthy, lawsuits tend to hinder that.
- The far christain right wing lobby. Nintendo does NOT fuck with these people, EVER, to the best of my knowldge. They let Wisdom Tree do what ever the fuck they wanted on the NES(while the could have easily sued the asses off them) and never said boo about Super Noah's ark 3d. The big N wants no part of the bad PR of pissing off the christains.
-back to Super Noahs ark 3d, the reason most of us heard about this shit 15 years latter on the internet is beacuse it was allowed to live and die it's own predictiable and quite death without a media circus. If Nintendo had gotten all up in arms, tried to get it shut down it would have recived so much press and news coverage that it would have sold a LOT more units. this would have incouraged more games with the serurity override and the whole messy cycle goes on and on. If you leave stupid things alone they will usaly be seen as stuipd and forgotten.

long and short, EA fucked up, Nintendo will pretend not to notice and in two weeks nobody will care.

Rule #4 - Never piss off a company that develops hardware that can potentially be used to sell your software. Said company can very well delay your studio's ability to receive development kits for their next gen hardware.

Thats not true Nintendo did fight Wisdom Tree, they threatened retailers that sold Wisdom Tree games that Nintendo would stop selling them software and hardware. This lead to retailers dropping Wisdom Tree games from store shelves. The games still managed to push 400k before dying a slow and sad death.

Why would the Christian organisations give a crap about EA's Dante's Inferno? Its not really a Christian title from what I've seen it just takes place in hell with some rogue warrior. Sorry if I got any of that wrong untill now I never even heard of Dante's Inferno guess the viral marketing worked. In the end I'd be more suprised to see the Catholic Church not take action then to see Nintendo harming relations with Christians by taking action.

Also the person who said Mass:WePray would appeal to 2.2 billion people. Since the majority of Christians are now Protestants I highly doubt it would have nearly that market. Protestants do not share Catholic's views on God and things like Mother Mary etc...etc... Basic education would show you that the market would be far smaller.

I agree Nintendo will drop this, they don't want to upset third parties and certainly not indanger loosing EA support.

I have to say that's pretty funny, EA has balls to use Nintendo like that.

I'm gigling at how EA's viral message of Dante's Inferno (which Mass:Pray is, btw) went undetected and consumers turned to bashing on EA instead of drooling over the game. Good LOL.

Woops, sorry about being a bit unclear there. The second part was directed at the people who think that Nintendo can sue, or that they even care about this ad - not at your post.

this type of media craving buzz is absurd.... it makes the people angry and makes others laugh, sure... but it does not in any way expand the audience for the game, you just interest people that are already gonna look forward to the game.

bad marketing, bad idea.
