So you have proven you CANNOT differentiate ps2 vs psp vs ps3.  Okay fine - after sony reports a loss of 250 million$ this quarter - then they will have lost more on the ps3 than they made on the ps1 and ps2.....happy now...lol

Secondly, why would you trust sony PR when they have been  wrong every year about ps3 profitabiity?

Sony said they were going to be profitable in 2008

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Kaz-Hirai-Hopes-PS3-Could-See-Profit-In-08-09-Fiscal-Year-8191.html

They could not predict the ww recession coming their way or the weak US dollar and strengthing yen.

Had everything went as usual PS3 might be already proftable just as they said.

LOL....Kaz Hirai works for SONY and he LIED numerous times to shareholders about PS3 profitability.  He can't help himself, because he knows if he said the ps3 the disaster it actually is, sony's stock would drop.

I have no vested interest in the success or failure of SONY.....but SONY does!

Why would you trust SONY to tell you how SONY is doing when they have filled you with lies so often in the past??

LMFAO

the ignorance.

Sounds like a weak excuse to me though. I understand there's a recession, and it's doing funny/crazy things to the economy, but making excuses like that is just weak. They might as well say "well if 50 million people bought PS3 within the first year without a price cut, we'd be all set". These what-ifs are kind of silly. There are still plenty of other companies that are still profitable, let alone very profitable during this recession.

Instead of blaming the recession, look at poor marketing/business strategy. It's pretty sad that MS, with it's problem-ridden system is turning profit, when Sony, with it's supposely superior system, is almost 5 billion in the red.

This whole thing is just silly though.

Advice for ZorroX
Try to read more carefully, and learn to understand business a little better. If a company posts a loss for a division, like Sony and its division that includes PSP PS2 and PS3, and they report a 4.7billion $ loss (since whenever), but they say that PSP and PS2 are still profitable, then logic dictates that PS3 is far worse than appears on the surface. PSP and PS2 are taking some of the slack that PS3 is generating.

I perfectly understand business. I understand, that Gaming division loss/profit include NOT only hardware. But also Software sales, Marketing, Advertising, Game engine creation, PSN maintaining, PSN creation.

I don`t know, how much all these things cost AND that`s why i don`t state that PS3 alone made 6 bln. $ loss. But some people have wide imagination.

Anyone trying to defend the sony bsuiness model for the last two years is pissing in the wind. It has been a broken model... evidecned by the tightest margins you can imagine and huge losses FOR THE PARENT COMPANY. You cant dress that up. You might say why is that different to the old MS gaming division.... simple... the parent company was making billions all the while... in other words they could afford it. I really dont see why it is difficult to understand the difference.

It's because they don't want to understand, better to sit in their bubble and believe all is well and good.

And what if when its all said and done PS3 makes them 2/3 billion in profits, what if it makes Sony even more by Br and dl movie/music sales ?

Tell me what does the BR win mean finencially for Sony, if you cant then stfu cause you dont know how bad/good things were are and can be.  No one has a clue how much BRs win will benefit Sony finencially over its entire life.  In order to truely judge the business model of the PS3 you would need to know Br affect on Sony as a whole.

The only probelm with the PS3 and its business model was the parent company had to much say in it.   But that only means PS3 costs are not directly SCE or PS3 fault.  Big daddy wanted BR to win, well they now got to suck it up and eat PS3 production costs.

@HUS

thats right no one does know... although I doubt they will end up with 2 to 3 billions in profits from the conception of the PS3 to its death.

Now I just stated some current financial facts... you are merely saying what if... as in what if they makes loads of money... its just as easy to say what if they dont. Weak way to argue a point there mate... oh... and dont tell me to shut the fuck up... its ignorant.

but not all facts, what part of sony does br fall under and its finencials.

yea sony lost tons of money! but i still dont understand why people change the subject all the time.

I am glad someone understands the big picture of the business.  This thread wasn't really about financials, so I suppose it is a red herring.

Really, neither the Xbox, Xbox 360, or PS3 have done much good in terms of increasing shareholders' stock value.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
