you have silver and gold

you will have free psn and premium

the difference, free psn is what we have now. the premium includes things such as qore.

That's not what it is.

I know you say its for the mmo's, which it very well will be, but it will also include other commodities.

Likely only for the specfic games, but I don't honestly think Sony would damage one of the biggest selling points to their platform. Especially now that the closest competition is the same price as them and they need to have as many advantages as possible.

Likewise I think this will make it easier for customers to play these mmo's having to just sign up enter their information once then just click the game they need to play. But I can understand how the media has and will jump on it as the 'psn no longer free' and potentially causing an outlash. But here's to hoping it is not something revolting~

Kaz has already stated that the premium model is not for online gaming, which would be the only concern I would have.  The existing PSN service offerings will remain free, sorry no hypocrisy here.  The premium services could include value added items such as Qore, game rentals, dedicated servers, etc.  Until it is further defined, there isn't much point in discussing it.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

They've already stated that online gaming will be free. However, clearly Quore and premium themes, etc. have worked for them, and I suspect they're thinking of keeping just enough of PSN free to argue it's better value than Live (so that means free online gaming, etc) but look to introduce optional premium content in a more structured way via a subscription model.

Saying that multiplayer gaming is going to remain free, is a red herring.  As we saw in the MW2's debacle on PSN, you get what you pay for.  This isn't to say XBL hasn't had technical problems in the past, but it IS to say that XBL have every right and expectation that on a big launch like this, there will be sufficient capacity.  If you're getting something for free...exactly what right do you have?  I'm not even sure the technical implementation is the same for both platforms?  Until we see what exactly these subscriptions will cover, it's hard to say the true impact...but I suspect...you're going to see alot of stuff included, other than multiplayer.

Again, Sony is trying to beat M$ at a game it CAN'T win at.  M$ has cost and price on its side, and I can see them launching something like...Peak Periods for Gold members and Silver get free non-peak.  Another way is to have non-peak kick in 30 days after a game launches...maybe 60 or 90.  The point  is that M$ is in the driver's seat, and it can tweak XBL as necessary to counter what steps Sony takes, once we see what these "premium" services are.

This is what we call making a huge fucking something out a little fucking nothing.

Im amazed how much you could elaborate on such an unsubstantial amount of information.

????  For years, we've heard a chorus of whining from people who DON'T have an Xbox about how XBL was overpriced...and I am making a mountian out of a molehill...you must be joking.  to top it off...Sony is looking at implementing some level of subscription model...and these same people are okay with it...talk about hypocrites!

We're not doing this again. This is at least the FIFTH time this has been posted. Good on you for not interpreting it as "ZOMG PSN WILL BE PAY TO PLAY NEXT YEAR!", like 3 of the other 4 threads, though.
