Forums - Microsoft - Why did the wired controller fail?

well ps3 has wired and wireless ones but the wireless ones r the main ones and anyways u can connect them with the wire and u dont need to buy batteries u just charge them for 15 minutes and they last about 4 hours :D

YEa... it has a few nice advantages to it but overall, the wireless controllesr are just more convenient.

Are you going to be another one of those people who keeps making random threads and never posts in them? Just curious.

They used to have wired remotes? o_O

I had no idea.....

Nintendo still doomed?

It's not that the wired controller failed, it's just that the wireless is so much better.

Who cares if it drains battaries if all you have to do is either 1) buy rechargeable batteries, 2) buy normal batteries that will last a good 15-20 hours, or 3) just plug your controller in for a recharge when you're not using it.

And I'm not sure what stores you're shopping at, I can still pretty easily find them.

Cause it gets messy. Look at this mess... Imagine if 360s and Wii had wired controllers on top.

Why two 360s?

Wired controller didn't fail, it was just updated.

Wires get in the way. They tie down my free spirit. Wireless is now low-power and low-latency enough that it makes perfect sense in the console space. After an initial investment in rechargables, I don't consider battery management to be much of an issue.

The worst thing about the Gamecube controller is that 2m cable. Totally inadequate.

@ V-r0cK

I grew up watching videos on a VCR with a wired remote. Seems so silly now.

For real? Wow i never knew that.  Geez back then you gotta be sitting pretty close to the TV then to use that VCR unless it came with a really long wire.  Then again there werent really that many big screen TVs either right? so sitting closer wasnt so bad for the eyes.

ps3 controller is smexy without wires. and built in batteries that last long enough for me. not to mention no more friends tangling up wires when playing co-op, no more dog running through and taking the controller with him, no more having to move the entire system so i can lay in my bed to play, etc etc etc.
