Very favorably. It may end up as my favorite overall, at this rate.

I liked it more than the NES & GB games (and DS game) but less than the SNES games. If I had to rank them, it'd probably be...

1. Super Mario World 2
2. Super Mario World
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
4. Super Mario Land 2
5. Super Mario Bros. 3
6. Super Mario Bros.
7. New Super Mario Bros.
8. Super Mario Bros. 2
9. Super Mario Land
10. The Lost Levels (ugh, too hard!)

Since we are doing the list thing (out of the games I've played a lot)

1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
2. Super Mario World
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Super Mario Bros.
5. New Super Mario Bros.
6. Super Mario Bros. 2
7. The Lost Levels

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

This is very likely going to end up being my list as well. I am not completely sold on it being better than Super Mario World yet, but it is going in that direction. The game kicks a lot of ass. It is a wondrous mish-mash of all the Mario platformers that came before it. Finally being able to play 4 player is likely to seal the deal though.

As much as I loved the cape and taking yoshi anywhere and star world and all the greatness that was Super Mario World, NSMBWii fixed the broken cape issue and has great multiplayer along with a great mix of gameplay from pretty much every game. I guess the few things I wish that still existed from SMW is the different yoshis having different capabilities and being able to keep them with you.

1. New SMB Wii - best levels, best bosses, penguin suit, co-op, everything good from all the other games
2. SMB3 - frog suit, tanuki suit, flight, World 4, World 5, World 7, airships, first world map, great ending
3. SMWorld - Yoshi, best world map ever, ghost houses, Star Road, Special World, switch palaces, colored Yoshis
4. SMB1 - your princess is in another castle, perfect game, changed the world
5. SMB2 USA - multiple characters, POW, Shy Guys, Bob Ombs, Wart, flying carpets, magic potions, and you can pick a rocketship plant out of the ground, great ending credits and music
6. Super Mario Land - you get a plane and a submarine, you go through Egypt, amazing music
7. New SMB - great game, but too easy, great mini-games, vs. mode, mega mushroom
8. SMB2 The Lost Levels - great game, but too similar to SMB1, basically a nightmare mode for SMB1, still amazing though

Let me assure you that there are some Mondo, Awesome, Tubular levels in the game. So long as you are willing to play every level thoroughly you can recreate a touch of that Secret magic that made SMW a legitimate contender for Star game on the SNES. The Road to that title is littered with stellar games too.
