Forums - Nintendo - BIG zelda news for wii!

I have faith in Nintendo on this one. Wind Waker was a wild change and it worked out amazingly.

Whatever Nintendo does, I trust it will be good. Even if Link goes steampunk.

What I want from Zelda right now isn't something radically new, I want something radically OLD. Going back to a series' roots has worked for Mario. Going back to basics did great for Wii Sports. So go back to the ideas of the original Zelda and expand on them, Nintendo. I want a massive and interesting world that's chock-full of things to do and places to explore, complimented with well-designed dungeons and fun-to-use items. Screw the cutscenes, screw the story, and let me make my own adventure.

Do it Nintendo. You know you want to!

Indeed, that could be quite something... Or, perhaps more likely, it could be a Zelda version of Oblivion (into which I will plumet if this is what ultimately happens)!

No, I don't think so. I do want elements from the original game - especially freedom to tackle the dungeons in almost any order - but I don't want Nintendo to simply throw away the series' legacy. Mario did not, by the way. NSMB Wii borrows elements from just about every Mario game ever, including the 3D games. No, I think it would be better if the new game implemented the best of both worlds along with it's own inovations (we know the controll scheme will be different) which hopefully is what is being done here.

Zelda is already steampunk. Some of the technology in some of the games, most notably Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, is that you would find in the 19th century, of which is generally what is considered steampunk(think trains).

Oh, then my meaning must be misconstrued. I meant like FF7 with the guns, swords, sunglasses and the emo Clouds on motorcycles.

Oh you mean the Japanese anime skewed version of steampunk?   I do hope Nintendo doesn't go in that area.

Wind Waker was steampunk. It had light elements of it at least, such as the submarine dudes.

Understandable, since it's set in the future of the medieval fantasy world of OoT.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

But even if they did, they'd make it respectable.

Steam punk is more like FFVI btw.

@SaviorX I don't know how they would make guns, motorcyles, and giant swords acceptable in a Zelda game. Guns could work, but only as a small item, and definately not in the way they were used in FFVII. Majora's Mask was also a very steampunkish game.

yeah ninty have budget and time so they won't screw up unlike activision or infinity ward...dude mw2 was shit....

As long as they are changing something sounds great to me. Steampunk (and its varied meanings) won't happen more than it did with past Z games.

As long as the genre doesn't completely change. I would hate if Zelda became an RTS or something.
