yeah ninty have budget and time so they won't screw up unlike activision or infinity ward...dude mw2 was shit....

I don't think you should have posted something like this. I really don't want to see this thread turn into a discussion about Activions, Infinity Ward, or MW2. That really wasn't a necessary way to express an idea, anywhere.

Why is it every time a major Zelda thread is started, the discussion turns to turning Zelda into steampunk?

I'm not going to go railing into my views of it, but frankly, if Zelda tried to change the model it has into something that drastic, or went 'SciFi' or any variation too far away from traditional fantasy storytelling, it would lose the very core audience it has built over the last 20 years. I mean, people already were shocked and thought Zelda had jumped the shark with Wind Waker, which incorporated an entirely water based world and dark themes in a cartoon based world.

If they did something like 'steampunk', you'd have a sharp divide between the fanbase of those who felt the series had lost its roots and those who loved the new direction the series had taken...but mostly just for that particular style. And Zelda would become like Final Fantasy, having to create a new style and look every few games as a gimmick to attract sales. Not as what it really is, a game about gameplay and exploration.

Zelda MMORPG confirmed?

Interesting guess, but no.

Maybe it'll be less sandboxy and more structured?

EDIT: Nah, that's just stupid of me. Somone please start a thread where everyone gets one post to say what it'll be like and then we can bet like crazy. I bet Puffy will win.

LMAO I'm not as inventive as Nintendo :P I don't think anyone would be able to guess the direction. I mean it's taken them a team of probably 100 people and 3 years so far.

OT: It'll be a 2011 release by the sounds of it. Take your time Nintendo, give us the best game of the generation!

I've been saying for 3 years what I think it'll be.  Ever since the Wii came out, I felt it was evident.  A Zelda game which utilized the Wiimote and Nunchuck to control both the swordand shield, switching between First and Third person controls as needed, trying to break away from the need for Z-Targetting and go beyond the Ocarina/Wind Waker/Twilight model.  First person swordplay would barrow a lot of its concept from Metroid Prime, but expand on that to allow for total freedom of movement and not lock you into just a set field of view.  And you would be able to switch back out of first person at any time.  As well, items (which some already alternate between first and third person in most of the 3D Zelda games), would benefit from this move.

Miyamoto himself has confirmed a lot of this idea, saying the next Zelda will feature WiiMotionPlus and barrow a lot of concepts from Twilight Princess.  But even more curious than these points, early after the Wii launched, it was Miyamoto himself who made multiple comments about how he personally enjoyed FPS games and was the one who gave the Prime team the idea to turn it into a First Person Adventure title.

Now, it could all just turn out completely different.  But until we see the actual gameplay footage, I'm still holding out hope that we get to see Nintendo try this out.  It would be something completely amazing, to be able to fight actual swordplay in first person and it be pulled off well.

If so then i may never buy a Wii. Zelda is like the only thing apart from Mario that i like from Nintendo. And if they fuck up zelda then they can suck on some hard boiled eggs.

Because i will never purchase a console just for few mario games

I agree. I hated the art style of Windwaker.

Maybe they'll change what you may call the "dungeon routine"... it has became quite predictable, with the same goals and the same "structure" in nearly all the past Zelda's dungeons: map, small boss, weapon, big key, big boss... and lots of puzzles in-between...

I enjoyed that formula, just like many of you i guess, but maybe it's time to twist it a little bit... why not transform Hyrule in a kind of one big and "unified" dungeon, with less "random" fights but more bosses, small ones and big ones, and puzzles everywhere?

Maybe not to the point of doing a kind of sandbox game or duplicate Shadow of the Colossus, but yes, it would definitely create surprises in the game's structure...

They already tried to twist things with the storytelling of Majora's Mask (not always appreciated by all) and with all the islands in Wind Waker (not always appreciated either), but i hope they'll try something different and creative, even if they already know some fans will not be happy...

But whatever Nintendo does, a part of the fans and all the usual haters won't be happy anyway, so, it doesn't change anything: go for it Aonuma... :)

That sounds kind of what they tried to do with Mario Sunshine.  Instead of having a system of worlds or paintings or 'galaxies' that link you to indavidual levels, you had one big world to explore (though many different sub-levels appeared through pipes and etc).

While I feel that concept could really work well for a Mario game if propperly executed (Sunshine wasn't), I think Zelda still needs to stick to at least some kind of Dungeon system.  Remember, much of what makes a 'Legend of Zelda' game is the whole concept of it feeling like you are playing the same 'Legend' over again, but with a whole new Link and in somewhat of a new way.  Taking away the dungeons would probably be a bit too much of a leap...remember how much people complained when they took away the traditional storyline and focused on the characters in Twilight Princess.

I disagree, to a point i'd not even be able to express: Wind Waker was awesome and beautiful, and was also one of the funniest and surprising game ever... it's a shame so many people have dismissed it (and often haven't even played it) just for the look, when it had so many qualities...

And i find quite funny that such critics come from Serious_frusting, who likes every console but the ones made by Nintendo: maybe you're not in the best position to ask for anything, cos anyway, your favourite game is to whine and complain, and give us all the reasons why you don't have a Wii, and will never have one, whatever Nintendo may do, or not do...

If you were such a Zelda fan, you'd have enjoyed Twilight Princess and Wind Waker just as well as all the past episodes... if you haven't, why should Nintendo care about you and what you may think? You're not a regular customer, you have no real intention to become one, and so you don't vote or you'll never vote with your wallet anyway... you're too "hardcore" for that, i guess...

So please, Nintendo, from someone who has played all the Zelda's ever made: make an even more detailed and beautiful cell-shaded Zelda, and don't listen to the haters, they're not worth your time and your efforts.

You're right, of course, there's a kind of "tradition" in the dungeon's routine... but that's why it could be a welcomed change... in my mind at least, maybe i'm the only one...  :)

But i've bolded some of your final words: the problem is, Nintendo fans do always complain... i'm reading videogames news and Nintendo news for years and years, and it's always the same, whatever happens, it's never able to please everyone... too much of the same? Not good... too much changes? Not good... if Nintendo wanted to please everyone, and wanted to listen to every fan, they'd get mad... sad but true...

What I want from Zelda right now isn't something radically new, I want something radically OLD. Going back to a series' roots has worked for Mario. Going back to basics did great for Wii Sports. So go back to the ideas of the original Zelda and expand on them, Nintendo. I want a massive and interesting world that's chock-full of things to do and places to explore, complimented with well-designed dungeons and fun-to-use items. Screw the cutscenes, screw the story, and let me make my own adventure.

Do it Nintendo. You know you want to!

I'm like the 8th person to quote this, but really, this is what I want. There's a reason the first Zelda is many people's favourite. The series has been inching toward JRPG with the console titles, and I don't like it. All it needs is a bigger party and a battle system, and then bam, it's Final Fantasy with puzzles.

Zelda is supposed to be an Adventure game.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
