Why is it every time a major Zelda thread is started, the discussion turns to turning Zelda into steampunk?

I'm not going to go railing into my views of it, but frankly, if Zelda tried to change the model it has into something that drastic, or went 'SciFi' or any variation too far away from traditional fantasy storytelling, it would lose the very core audience it has built over the last 20 years. I mean, people already were shocked and thought Zelda had jumped the shark with Wind Waker, which incorporated an entirely water based world and dark themes in a cartoon based world.

If they did something like 'steampunk', you'd have a sharp divide between the fanbase of those who felt the series had lost its roots and those who loved the new direction the series had taken...but mostly just for that particular style. And Zelda would become like Final Fantasy, having to create a new style and look every few games as a gimmick to attract sales. Not as what it really is, a game about gameplay and exploration.
