Many companies release games with a lot of content: but one game a year, or every two years...
Look at Twilight Princess: 50 hours of gameplay...more would be... too much... and would need even more people, and even more time, and even more money... and how long did it already take, the way it was released? 4 years? 5 years?
dude, i didnt say anything about twilight princess. i didnt mention twilight princess on purpose because nintendo did 100% good with that game. it has enough content and is exactly what it should be, so yes, you can mention one game, two games, three games, but that doesnt change the fact that they could have done more with other games.
Nintendo releases many games each year, for Wii, and for DS... you can't ask for more and more, more games, plus more content in each one of them, as they have a limited man power available...
i typed the first two sentences for people like you. i made sure to say that i did not have a problem with the rate that they are releasing games. read my post over, i told people who bring this up to 'suck a nut'. the problem i have is the amount of content in SOME of the games that they have released. not in EVERY game, just SOME.
Do we ask Pixar to release a new movie every month? They could "maybe" do it, but the quality would be the one of a saturday morning TV show, and not the excellence we're used to with all their past classics...
once again, i dont have a problem with the rate at which they are releasing games. i arleady adressed this.
The only way Nintendo could do more is by hiring new employees, buying some new 2nd parties, or doin' deals and collaborations with 3rd parties... as each "good quality" game now takes at least one year to be made on DS and two years on Wii, they need to plan all this really early, so even if they move now, we will see the results... in two years, or next gen...
i dont have a problem with that, i just want to see them taking steps towards this. besides that though, adding mario vs luigi would not be hard to do in NSMB Wii. it would be the easiest thing in the world to put that in the game, and i bet nintendo has different reasons for not including it. i bet it has nothing to do with money.
Let's hope they'll do it, but for the moment, with only 4000 employees, some of them in the commercial departments, and some of them workin' on the hardware side of things, miracles can't happen... and don't forget that the usual quality is still there anyway, in at least 5 to 10 games each year... not that bad, so let's be thankful for what we've got... :)
i love nintendo's quality. thats why it depresses me when they skimp out on what could be an insanely awesome game (punchout). the quality is there, no doubt, but i feel as if they could have done a bit more.

Sorry for my late answer...
Yeah, i used the TP example at purpose, because that's the kind of games that many other big teams are doin' these days, if you try to compare Nintendo with everyone else: each team focus on one game only... and if i use this example, it's because the Zelda team (EAD 3) is i think around 200/300 people... it's already 1/10 of Nintendo's manpower... for one game every couple of years when we're lucky...
Same thing for Metroid Prime: one dedicated team, Retro Studios... and a serie of games full of content... 3 in 7 years...
Same thing for Smash Bros, with HAL this time: many people focused on one game only, a lot of time and money invested... 3 in 10 years...
My point: if they want to do the same with each of their game, they have to be sure that these will sell at least 2 million copies, if not way way more, like Zelda or Smash or Mario Kart... i guess their profits on Prime 3 were not that great: maybe they have even lost money on it, and if they still release such games, it's for the "prestige" and to "please the fans", rather than for the profits only...
But they can't do the same with each and every game, cos then, they'd see their profits disappear... each game would take 6 months, 1 year more... and would maybe need 10, 20 more employees...
To use your example: Punch-Out will maybe become a million seller, but for "just" one million of copies sold (and it's never a guarantee), you have to know what's a decent budget, and where's the good balance between attractive content and profitability...
Now of course, they may be a little bit too "cheap" from time to time: by example, i still don't get why NSMBWii doesn't have way more playable characters... Mario, Luigi, 2 Toads? Why not at least Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi as well?
In this case, maybe it would have taken one or two more months to program and test everything: but then, they'd not even have ONE REALLY BIG BLOCKBUSTER ready for holidays 2009... and people would be mad at them, just like at the end of 2008... see what i mean?
