Forums - Microsoft - CNET UK's games console reliability survey: 60 per cent of Xbox 360s have broken

Hmm

There is a 3 way console war, Xbox 360 is competiting with 2 other consoles,so of course more people are going to say it broke, along with the fact that it used to break often.

Oh and where i live 100% of 360 broke!

I call bullshit. Its definatly not that high and This is an online poll. There was no way to verify what systems these people really own and i guarentee fanboys of all systems flocked to this poll and skewed the results. I highly doubt 60% of 360s fail and i even doubt 17% of PS3s break as well. These numbers are just too high

Long Live SHIO!

and they continue to buy it ...

this company makes some big shit but has the money to recover from all their mistake (RROD/Vista)

And people continue to buy the jacked up poll. Ironic, no?

So this survey says that since early 2008 it is 34%, "which is double the PS3 failure rate"

1. The failure rate of the PS3 is 17% then? I doubt that and I also doubt the 34%

2. What is the failure rate of the 360 since the latest (and best) incarnation.... I'm guessing very close to the PS3.

I think reasonable has it right with his post.

Yeah yeah so everyone with the older version should run to the shop and get a new Xbox which has only twice the % failure rate of "every" version of PS3. Nice logic there. You either count them all, or don't bother. If someone made 50 20 milions of shitty products and after 4 years in the business come with product that is half less shity than the previous versions, you could just close your eyes and pretend it didn't happend?

IMO

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Yikes! 60% seems awfully, awfully high.

So does 16%....

Hell even 6% is high for nintendo.

Totally a biased study.

Well, yeah, 360 rate remains high by comparison, but 60% has to be way too high surely?  I figure that, as often happens, the survey attracted more responses from those who've suffered a failure (after all, it's more tempting if you see the survey to say 'me too' than 'not me') and hence skewed high, I suspect the 360 skewed the highest followed by PS3 with Wii of course coming out the most reliable.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Oh yeah.  Couldn't agree more... wonder if it's exagerrated via ratio, or just all over the map.

The actual ratios don't seem like they'd be far too off.

360 being 3-4 more times likely to break then a PS3 which is 2-3 times more likely to break then Wii.

Probably just all over the map though.

My PS3 and Wii are often on 8-9 hours a day and neither has failed.

Neither has my 360 but it's had much less of a workload, more likely to use it for short bursts of gaming.

I suspect:

1 - the order is correct (D'Huh obviously)

2 - the ratios between consoles are probably not too far out

3 - the percentages are too high, particularly for 360

I don't think so, Got my 360 for like 2 years, never had even one red light.
