I checked out the FutureShop website (it's a Canadian retailer) and it says it's releasing November 19. Maybe you should check back then. Although the official release date is supposed to be 17...

The reviewers wouldn't give the game a high score if it weren't a good port. You don't need to read the review if you read the reviews for the original games.

Original games were not hyped to death, minor hype has no effect on the Metascore. It's massive amount of hype that has undesirable effects (GTAIV, Halo 3). Plus value gets factored into the score. You get two great games for $40.

Value? The two games retail for $20 each. Sega Genesis Collection and Orange Box this is not when we speak of value. I love the two games to death, and if I still had my PS3 and didn't have my PS2 copies, I'd probably dip back in myself. I just don't get your justifications of the score is all. Hyped, not hyped, whatever. This is obviously not a game most people that are familiar with the series even care about. I sure don't. I'm a fan of the series and a big boy. Just tell me the games work. I can figure out the rest myself.

Really though, if you don't think the 97 is a product of early review hype then I don't know what to tell you. Typically the first few reviews of most good games are the most glowing. Have you not seen the trend that almost all games go down in Metascore as more reviews get added? It's at this time that you should pay the least attention to it's score, since it's almost certain to go down. However, if no other reviews were ever added for some odd reason, it would make the score effectively useless, just like the few games Gamerankings has on file from the 5th generation.

First of all, if you read the original post, you'd know that I never stated that it would stay at 97. I said that it would have no trouble maintaining and average that is above 90. Plus, this game is still amazing by current day standards (disregard graphics), unlike SGC, which is mainly nostalgic gaming. Orange Box is better value, but that doesn't mean GOWC is bad value. You still get 2 kick-ass games for 67% of full retail price of most other games.

@bolded text

This is a direct result of people telling Sony that they want a God of War Collection. Why would people say they want something if they really don't care about it?

The game is 67% of most games true, but it's dead even with just going out and buying both games for PS2. I don't see the value in that. It's not bad value, but it's not great either.

Regarding the bolded text, I was referring to fans not caring about the reviews, not the game itself.

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

EDIT: got rid of some anecdotal stuff.

I can't think of any other ports that went from SD to HD during the conversion, effectively including the SGC, since its basically sub-SD games smoothed out, is all.

Isn't it possible that the conversion was more pleasant than most would surmise it to be, and hence, the awesome scores?  Made some great games even better -- much moreso than other ports (which did NOT do SD to HD upgrades, despite doing some other upgrades, like new controls and widescreen support) have done.

Perhaps, just maybe, HD gaming is "worth it" after all?

For the first part, refer to Procastinato's post. Second part is not true, unless you found most GOW and asked them if they cared about the reviews AND got a "No" for an answer. I, for one, always care about reviews.

It sounds like it went very well.  Bluepoint commented that they had GoW 1 running on the PS3 in 2 weeks.  The locked 60 frames per second, uncompressed textures, 2xAA, trophy support and HD upscaling really seem to have improved the overall game.  Professional reviewing sites will most likely take great care to be certain that the Collection doesn't receive a better score than the original version.  Due to this restriction, I doubt the Collection will end with a higher metascore than either individual game.  I wonder what the break even point on this game is?  I'll take a guess it is around 500k.  I hope Sony does well with this, it would encourage them to revisit other titles such as the often requested SOTC collection.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

i plan to get it sometime nxt year.

If it can get a metacritic rating of 97 then it will be the highest rated game this gen along with Uncharted 2.

1) Uncharted 2 is at 96 right now.

2) SMG has an average of 97.

3) GTAIV has an average of 98 for both PS3 and 360.

Update: after 12 reviews, the game is sitting at a comfortable 95.
