Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Official Bayonetta Thread

I just played the demo and I think it's great.  The problem I have with the Edge 10 for Bayonetta is that they seem to have awarded it on the strength of it being the best game in it's genre, which would be fine for pretty much any other publication, but I've come to see Edge 10's as revolution over refinement (Mario 64, Gran Turismo, Zelda OOT), or failing that, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink exemplars of value for money (Halo 3, Orange Box, LBP).  The titles that haven't slotted into these categories are the games that stick out as being slightly overrated 9's for me (Half Life 2, GTAIV).   I'm buying Bayonetta, as I have enough faith in Edge to know that regardless of whether it truly deserves its perfect score, it will be an incredible game rather than just a great one.  I don't get this 'ulterior motive conspiracy' stuff that gets bandied around on forums when discussing Edge scores (I'm not saying I've seen that here, but most of you have probably seen it)....a good magazine, which used to be great, has given a game that they clearly love to bits top marks.  Isn't that the way game reviews should be?  Would every journalist on their payroll have given it a 10?  No.  Who knows if the guy writing the review had the final say on the score, or even if the 10 was decided by shadowy boardroom figures in Microsoft T shirts and the review written to fit, but who cares?  Thankfully, magazine scores aren't an exact science.

The burning question that needs answering before I ever thumb the pages of Edge again, is if Bayonetta is a 10 (which does not mean 'perfect game'...come on) for being the best hack 'n slash game in the world ever, Why did Zak & Wiki only get an 8 for being the best console puzzle game ever????  J/k.

I played the demo and I must say I came away feeling a bit meh!

don't get me wrong it seems like a great game and I absolutely love the Japanese soundtrack but for me God of War seems a little better, anyone know what edge gave them out of interest?

I will definitely get Bayonetta tho, like cyberrazorcut I too have enough faith in Edge to know that even if they have overrated this it will still be a fantastic game. I would rather play it for myself and be able to come to my own conclusion than ignore it and moan that it was an overrated game without ever having an opinion on it.

@cyberrazorcut - yes if Bayonetta is a 10 for those reasons then Zak and Wiki should be to, Edges reviews have been puzzling me for the last couple of years but they're still worth listening to.

So, does the western ps3 demo look / run better than the Japanese one?
I played both only once and with some time inbetween, but I felt the western one looked a bit better.

Looking forward to: FF Versus XIII / LBP2 / The Last Guardian / Yakuza 4 / ICO Collection

@jin

yeah.

Guys at Sony are helping to clear the tech issues up it seems.

*Sheepishly raises hand to admit he's never played God of War.  Not even for two minutes.*

I think Edge gave the PS2 games 8 and 7.   Or possibly 9 and 7, but they definitely gave the sequel 7.

8 and 7 makes no sense to me if Bayonetta is a 10. Like i said ill wait until i play the final game before i pass judgement.

Edge seem to love going againsts the grain with their reviews, Bioshock, MGS4 and NSMBwii just to name a few. It wouldnt suprise me if most of the american sites end up rating Bayonetta lower than the God of Wars.

Anyway, whats the problems with the PS3 version? Famitsu gave the 360 version a higher score right? I've played both 360 and PS3 versions and cant tell them apart. These were the european demos if that makes a difference.

I have played both demos and GOWIII is freaking amazing. I have played the demo like 15 times and I have discovered some awesome combos with the cestus and the Blades of Chaos. So, you people that are saying GOWIII is simplistic should really play the demo more and try to discover some things.

In the other hand Bayonetta is also really cool, and has a more complex fighting system; but in the end judging all the aspects like graphics, gameplay and presentation GOWIII is better than Bayonetta and better than every other action game yet this generation. I have DMC4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1&2, and after playing GOWIII demo, those games lack something.

I will Buy Bayonetta, DMC5 and Ninja Gaiden 3 because all those games are really cool and rewarding (especially Bayonetta....I love sexy women XD); but GOWIII will be a Masterpiece.

I know this is a Bayonetta thread, and that all I have said promotes GOWIII lol; but in the end both will be great games; so buy them both just like me XD

I think this might be a sleeper game that turns out to be one of the best games released next year. :P

I'm really excited about it.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
