Forums - PC - 8800GT out on monday...beats 8800GTS for $199-$250???

Another thing to note if you're in the market for video cards: ATI/AMD is due to release its HD3800 card on november 15th. It is meant to compete with the 8800GT, performance and price wise.

Since I'm a linux user I have to chose nvidia though.

Also - for anyone who does not know, the 8800GTS is going to get an update before the end of the year that will make it better than the 8800GT.

edit: why does this thread keep asking me to enter a username/password for a ps3 gamertags site???

Like a firmware update epsilon? Or a new version for sale?

I think it will be 65nm like the GT, and will most likely use the G92 gpu or something very similar.  Supposedly it will definitely be better than the current GTX.

Interesting. You had me getting my hopes up for something like what happened with the 6800s where you could flash the card to turn it into a GTX iirc.

Here's a link to an extremeoverclocking.com thread where they are discussing it.

whoa....something really wierd is going on with the forums.  They're actually taking up the full width of my (16:9) screen!

Yeah the forums do that to me occasionally too, the only difference is that my screen is more like 32:9 because of 2 monitors =P Looks funky, I will grab a screenshot next time it happens..its mildly amusing.

PS - Any word on how the new GTS will impact SLI? I know if you use two different cards they need to be the same chipset so the 65nm change sounds like it wouldn't work with the older versions. The other thing is that I know the 640GTS works with a 320GTS but the 640 will only use 320MB of its ram.

I'm guessing it won't work, since the original GTS uses the G80 gpu.

kinda what I figured but oh well...at least it should mean a cheaper card for me soon.
