Forums - PC - 8800GT out on monday...beats 8800GTS for $199-$250???

I just barely learned of this card this evening (I guess I'm behind on computer hardware )

This card will come in a 256MB version ($199) and a 512MB version ($250).

It uses a new 'G92' type of GPU that's manufactured with a 65nm process.  Preliminary benchmarks show it to be better than the current 640MB 8800GTS cards!  For $250 max, that's awesome!

If this all pans out, I know what my next big purchase will be!

Dude, if overclocked correctly, it can almost match the 8800 ULTRA. This card is the best deal in videocards I've seen in months.

Must get >_>

Whats the best laptop card?

Completely off topic but hey, thought I might as well ask.

I believe there is some sort of 8 series mobile card that gets put into some of the more expensive laptops.

If you like high-end graphics and are getting a new computer, you might want to consider getting a desktop PC - you get much more performance (+ upgradeability) for the same $$.

It looks like you can get a notebook with a 8700m GT (best one I could find) for not too expensive. This one is a behemoth though, and eww, vista, bad.

The fact that this thing isn't two slots wide is also nice =P Thats one thing I hate about the 8800s...

My parents are coughing up $2000NZ towards it and they won't buy anything but a laptop.

I think its currently looking like a Dell laptop (Inspiron 5120?) with 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200RPM harddrive, that video card, a pretty nice screen and sweet sweet windows XP for around $2400.

It doesnt help that I know bugger all about laptops =\

Wow, that would be totally awesome. Imagine what an SLI setup can do then.

Where can I see the benchmarks?

i wonder if they're lowering the price because the geforce 9 series are comming out :D

they were rumored to be released in november..

No. This would be Geforce 9 but they want to cash in on the 8800 name, i.e. they're breaking they're own naming scheme.

Next Nvidia card will be "8800GT GX2" in Q1 2008 i.e. two of these on one board.

AMD/ATI's RV670 (mid-November) will match or beat 8800GT. It's similiar architecture to HD2900XT with AA and AF bugs fixed and a significantly higher clock, for $250 also. Next AMD card will be R680 i.e. two RV670s on one board in Q1 2008, then R700 architecture in mid-2008.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

yeah, I'm looking forward to the RV670s.
Hopefully its good enough to justify a jump from a X1900XT (which is serving me well but faster is always better)

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.
