People don't realize this but Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World on the NES & SNES were fucking hard I never finished any of them despite being one of my favorite games.

I can run through the original super mario bros in about 6 minutes (literally)
and I will say new super mario bros wii, is hard, honest to goodness, delivers a feeling I haven't felt in years hard, My brother and I have played through the first 2 worlds co-op, by level 1-6 I was already feeling challenged by the level design , carefully landed jumps between paranah plants, legions of cheapcheaps, deadly pits beneath small moving platforms all with flying enemies, and borrowing from castlevania, evil crushing gears yes it is beautiful
frankly I'll tell you why the guide isn't in co-op, if you die, you respawn and players will be able to eventually push their way through the hardest levels on co-op as long as 1 player lives
I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!
NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's even funnier are the reviewers saying that it is too easy. I really think they just played through 1-1 and 1-2... I am only up the first big castle (haven't entered yet), At the end of 1-3 I think I had 16 lives. Now, I have 10.
Mario games tend to balance the frustration with the hope of winning, by providing excellent controls and level design.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
It's a good difficulty. I've yelled at my friends for being idiots, and they have yelled at me. We've gotten passed world 4, and we had a lot of fun. It's hard enough to challenge, but not so hard that you'll want to give up. Plus, essentially infinite lives lets you go at it until whenever.
When I got to the multiplayer segment I laughed maniacally, like I know that's EXACTLY what happens, but because that happens its SO much FUN, but you gotta have your friends there so you can see their pissed off faces as you throw them into a pit.

| This is how it has always been, and so it apparently shall remain. Yet New Super Mario Bros. Wii is far more difficult than the most recent major Mario title, Super Mario Galaxy (2007). Many of the same children and parents who enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy will be crushed into submission by New Super Mario Bros. Wii as they lose over and over again. |
How can anyone say one is harder than the other, they're completely different?
"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
There are very difficult points in NSMB, but thankfully the game makes it easy to rack up 1ups (I have over 90 lives) so I don't mind the really hard levels
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! So? I don't think anyone would dispute that it's a lot harder to beat Battletoads than it is to beat Fable, and yet they're in totally different genres.
Well in Galaxy's defense, it might be easy to beat the game but getting 120 stars is no easy task.
But hey NSMB Wii was never supposed to be easy. It's definitely approachable and fun but you are going to have to work to beat it... that goes for all gamers not just certain types. But that is what I love about it because it gives you a challenge and doesn't have to have cheap A.I. or stuff like that eh.
The original Super Mario Bros. games were how Nintendo took a bunch of kids and adults who'd never played games before and turned them into hardcore Nintendo fans.
So what I'm saying is... be ready for 20-30 more years of hardcore Nintendo fans that learn the ropes on this game.
And yes, a game can be casual and hardcore at the same time. It's the secret to Nintendo's success. And the secret to GTA's success too for that matter.
