Do you know how to use that Photon Blast thing? Or the mag?

I'm unsure about the photons right now. I forgot how you used them on PSU.

The mag on the other hand. You feed the mag to boost its stats. The stats of your mag actually boost the stats of your characters.

For example I feed my mag Dimates because that mostly boosts the ATP (attack power) and that makes my attacks are stronger. You can feed it pretty much any item excluding weapons and armor. Depending on what you feed boost different stats.

My expectations for cell phone games are low. I'm happy if they're remotely entertaining for more than 5 minutes. Doom RPG was fantastic, and I've played meteos quite a bit as well. But those only cost a few dollars.

DS games are considerably more expensive. So I wouldn't mind having more games of PSX and N64 quality on the DS. Even porting those games would be great for me, but they don't even do that.

It's not the quality of the games, its the style. There always has been a distinction between a handheld game and a console game (although the PSP does sit more on the console side than the handheld for game style). You can have a fantastically high quality handheld game that is nothing like a console game. Like the pokemon games for example, those are very much handheld games.

Anyone played Phantasy Star Zero yet? Simply amazing for the DS. Gameplay actually feels very similar to Phantasy Star Online.

Real shame Sega didn't market it a little. Websites haven't even gotten around to reviewing it yet.

So yeah, go buy it.

How is it, as far as randomizing the level layout?  I have gone through multiple Phantasy Star games, including the derivatives of Online, all the way back to the Dreamcast version.  For myself, I have Borderlands to fill that niche, and other RPGs also, if I need something.

I was unaware the levels are randomized. But considering there is not full map to look at, I guess it could be. To be honest it doesn't feel much different. PSO felt like you run from room to room, monsters could not even go past door ways. And that this feels like but it has to load in the next area.

If you were a fan of PSO and PSU, you should definitely be happy with this. As I enjoyed those games as well.

Well people expect almost PS2 quality for the PS2.

I don't think wanting PS1 and N64 quality on the DS is asking for too much. Its a very capable piece of hardware and I'd like to better efforts and even more ports of classic games.

And I disagree, the Pokemon games would be acceptable for the N64 and PS1. People bought SNES quality JRPGs for the PS1.

Oh! feed the mag? :O Thank you! I am not that good on Phantasy Star games (this is my first time actually), I am low lvl yet but I will try to feed my mag.

You seem to be missing that its not the quality of games Im talking about. Handheld games in general have a much more immediate, less cinematic style. They are there to be played when you want for as long as you want, whether it be five minutes on the loo or five hours on a bus trip. They also have to have control schemes with much less precision due to the fact that you might be playing on a bus or somewhere.

Console games are different experiences altogether, they often can't be immediately walked away from and as such often have more cinematic stylings, different styles of saving etc.

I don't agree. There are plenty of cinematic games on the DS. It doesn't matter how they're supposed to be played or for whatever amount of time. The damn thing goes to sleep when you close it, you open when you're ready to continue. Most people play their hand held consoles at home or while sitting around.  The only genre you can really play on a moving vehicle is a JRPG. The control scheme argument is not a good one. I mean playing a platformer or shooter does require much precision. So that means there are plenty of DS games that aren't travel friendly.

Maybe you feel DS should be kept simple and stripped down. But I feel wanting PS1 and N64 quality isn't asking for too much.

Did you try Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days? I had reservations about it (mainly the Disney stuff -- I thought it would be kiddie) but its not!

I've played it a few hours. I'm having a hard time motivating myself to play it further.
