Forums - Nintendo - Capcom explain why Darkside Chronicles is on-rails

Many Resident Evil fans on the Nintendo Wii were upset to learn that the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is an on-rails arcade shooter instead of a mainline traditional title. Matt Dahlgren, the product manager for the Resident Evil brand, explained Capcom’s decision for the gameplay in a recent live-streaming event:

If you look at Resident Evil in the past, there’s a lot of different styles of games that have appeared within the franchise. An arcade-style shooter is definitely not brand new to the series. And it fits particularly well on the Wii platform. We already did Umbrella Chronicles once and that left some gaps in the storyline. So it made sense to finish off this iteration of this series.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will be released on November 17th exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

So is this answer satisfactory? I would say that makes sense.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the story. Just give me a good game and make it in a genre I like.

So no, this excuse does not work with me.

Enough on-rail shooters. When are we going to get Resident Evil RPG? I've been waiting for 13 years damnit!

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

good explanation but really it makes sence since UC was a railshooter lol... i hope capcom makes a wii resident evil games titled resident evil 4.5 .. it will be set 5 years after RE4 and 5 years before RE5...

How about RE platformer? I want to stomp some zombie heads.

I want a RE mmorpg. That's where the money is in today XD

Because making the sequel to an on rails shooter a SRPG would be stupid?

I really didn't think this needed to be explained. It's this close |---| to being a numbered sequel.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

If I recall correctly they brought all the negative reactions on themselves by first claiming Wii owners would be very happy.

Anyway, nothing to see here except for some PR talk.

I mean it makes sense but it's not like it wouldn't have worked or people wouldn't have gone nuts if the "Chronicles" was finished as a full 3-D game.
