LBP got extremely high ratings for graphics, presentation and innovation. Remember that.

So it got high scores for being great at a lot of things? What is your point?

Can't wait to play Mario myself.

I don't see the problem either. In fact, aren't those the three things that matter the most?

Well, since you asked and since it's relevant to this comparison....

No. No they aren't.

Ok, then if you're the genius, why not tell us what they are then...

Based on the comparison and the reason why Mario always wins.

-Distinguishable characters.

-Motive

-Intriguing story

-Distinguishable bosses with personality

-The level has a theme which unveils what the boss is all about

-Power ups

LBP deserved its scores, but NSMB will not recieve higher scores because it doesn't innovate. It's quite the same reason Uncharted games will never get a 10/10 from Gametrailers.

nsmb innovate?

intriguing story it have been the same since nes days.

i will give mario have more power ups and he is faster, and more acrobatic,  but LBP have some great user content.

Last time I checked:

- Innovation
- Graphics
- Presentation

Were the top things that make a game great.

Unless we're talking game play, which innovation falls into. Again, what was said wrong in that post?

Innovation and gameplay are NOT the same thing (they don't even have to be related) and gameplay is the single most important thing for a game to be great.

Signature goes here!

thar's right gameplay is important 80% inovation 15%
graphics & sound 5%

^^ speaking of a 2d platformer or course, other genres depend on other stuff too

I never said NSMB innovated. I said innovation is why LBP got such high scores. If it didn't it would've scored lower than Mario did.

I didn't say innovation and game play were the same thing. I said innovation falls into game play, which it does. Read it again.

Yeah it's true you never said they were the same but innovation does not necessarily fall into gameplay. You can innovate by creating a new lighting engine and it doesn't affect gameplay at all. Also, you don't have to innovate to have great gameplay.

That's why I think your statement that Innovation, Graphics and Presentation are the top things that make a game great is flawed because it doesn't take gameplay into account.

Is it me or am I the only one who hates the 3 layers of 2D platforming that LittleBigPlanet has?

Pixel Art can be fun.

Nope, it was my problem with the game too. I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I think it'd have been better with just one layer, or two at most.
