I'm considering just getting the PS2 version of GT3, but I'm hoping they release an update or an adaptor that finally completely works with the old PS2 guitars so I can use it for the PS3 game (rock band as well). The PS3 version of Rock Band is the only one that has a wireless guitar so I'm going with that version there.

I'm not sure why anyone would get the Wii version unless you don't have a PS2, but I guess if you have no previous version...enjoy your friend codes.

So it wouldnt be for the speaker or rumble? =P

Probably because its cheaper, has rumble, is innately wireless, and has the built in speaker (via wii-mote)....but I don't know..I guess those aren't very good reasons =P /sarcasm

In any case does the PS2 version even have online play? I know the PS2 has network capabilities and all but how many people actually even use that? Seems like you could have a hard time finding folks to play on the PS2 version since there is no x-platform play.

edit: PS - Does anyone else find it a bit hard to believe that they would have online multiplayer but not offline multiplayer?  They are the same mode! The only differnce is where the input comes from....

To Each Man, Responsibility

ok, here's the scoop, the article only says there's no "co-op offline multiplayer" which means there still is multiplayer quickplay (like versus) just no "co-op" or joint effort if you will.

I do apologize, as I read this like it meant there is no offline multiplayer, when there clearly is...

so in summary:

if you want to play together to achieve combine score play co-op career mode.
if you want to play versus select the multiplayer on the menu.

Cheaper?  Really?  That's a reason?  It's $5 cheaper for the bundle (which you have to buy for the Wii because it's the first version).  That's $95 versus $90.  The PS2 version is $80 (wait a second...that's not cheaper than the Wii version at all...)  Yeah, real cheaper...now let's compare features...

What exactly is that speaker on the wiimote going to do for me?  The last I played Guitar Hero the sound came from the TV.  And yes, the PS2 still has better online games to play than the Wii.  I've played them for years.  People use it.  Guitar Hero 3 on the PS2 will be online according to amazon, and as for finding people to play...more people have Guitar Hero on the PS2 than any other system.  Odd statement.

The PS3 and 360 versions also have wireless guitars, but somehow the Wii is more "innately" wireless?  Ok, guys...I'd much rather not have to hook up to another controller.  I'd say the PS3 and 360 versions are more wireless, unless you want rumble...on the Wiimote?  Last I checked you used a guitar...

Now, which versions get downloadable songs?  Yeah, not the Wii or PS2.  That's the most important feature.

So like I said, I'm not sure why I would even buy the (more expensive) Wii version when I can just get the $45 game and use my old guitar.  So, I would like the PS3 to support my old guitar as well so I can spend the $5 for better online and downloadable content for both Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band (which isn't even on the Wii and will be better because of drums and mic).

Oh, and I have a Wii.  I guess if that's all you're stuck with, you'll still have fun...

did they leave it out intentionally so they could give it to you later?...i don't understand why they would leave something like that out when it can so easily be put back in.

The other versions of guitar hero make you unplug your controllers and stick in a dangle thing for the wirless to work.  Even the PS3 version which is odd considering they have bluetooth.

While the Wii version just makes you put the wiimote into the guitar.  Hence why it's considered a better wireless.

...

A. Where are you buying it? I've seen PS2 for 89.99 Wii for 89.99 PS3/360 are both 99.99 unless you own a guitar so theoretically it -is- a cheaper base entry price. If you're going to compare prices, compare simmilar model not one without the guitar to one with as this will not affect everybody.

B.  Wii could theoretically get downloadable songs with ease. Compression these days a song can take all of a few megs of space. ALL Wii's have memory not all PS2's do except memory card...

Speaker: There is a battle mode where both players can be playing at the same time, the speaker will make it clear who is making a mistake. Its not a "wow omg gotta have it" feature but its a nice extra if its a toss up for someone otherwise.

Wireless: If you want a wireless guitar for the 360, PS2, or PS3 version you have to pay extra. The Wii version only comes wireless, hence my statement "innately wireless".

In any case, I thought you were buying the PS2 version, no? So why are you using the 360/PS3 wireless guitar as a reason to buy the PS2 version..that makes no sense. The fact that you already have a guitar and don't feel the need to pay for a new one I totally understand, but thats not the case for everyone.

BTW - The PS2 does have wireless guitars. Check Here

Rumble: This is a big feature for a lot of people, feel free to disagree but its true. Perhaps you are not one of those people but it doesn't mean that other folks don't want it.

Online: The original point you made here was that the Wii had to utilize friend codes...which is incorrect. You can play against random folks without friend codes, you only need the friend codes for your friends list etc...

The point that I was making about the PS2 is that its online community was always small so I wasn't sure if the PS2 version was going to have online support. I checked around and it seems that it will have online supported, but I am still curious how big that community is. If anyone has some hard numbers I would be interested. Its an interesting tidbit of info even beyond this discussion.

But its also worthing noting that the PS2 is at the end of its life. The here impact is that the PS2s online userbase is going to be shrinking not growing.  And the Wii's online user base is going to be growing not shrinking.  So folks looking to get enjoyment out of the game down the road should definitely account for that.

Price: The Wii version and PS2 versions are the same price if you get the basic set. And as I said the Wii version is cheaper than the 360 and PS3 packs even while including a wireless guitar.

To be fair though, someone who wants to buy the game new will not have the incentive of currently owning a PS2 guitar. And thus they would get more features out of the Wii version (aka rumble, wireless, speaker) for the same price as the PS2 version.

It is also worth mentioning that the 360 and PS3 versions have a big feature that neither the Wii nor the PS2 have however. And that is DLC.

Now if you want to get the PS2 version because you have guitars already. Great go for it. I am in no way trying to say that everyone should get the Wii version. But when you ask the thread topic why "anyone" would want to get the Wii version and you get several people who give you answers I think you should realise that many people do want the Wii version and that you're impression that there is no reason is only from your perspective.

Also, you can cut the crap with your passive agressive comments like "I guess if that's all you're stuck with, you'll still have fun... ". If you don't like the Wii version then don't buy it, but posting potshots like this just to get a rise out of folks is sad.

Anyone know how patches work for those who own a 360 without a hard drive? Would they be stored on a memory card or something?

A dangle thing? You mean the wireless receiver you plug into the system? I'd much rather do that then have a Wiimote dangling from my guitar as I'm trying to play.
