Forums - Sales - Activision: 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 outselling PS3 vesion 2-1

Expected, I guess, as FPS players prefer 360 and it's superior controller (imo) for FPS

Launch of Modern Warfare 2 was also the biggest day on Xbox Live.

November 12, 2009 - Activision announced this morning impressive sales for its anticipated sequel Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with first day totals almost reaching five million units in North America and UK. The platform breakdown on consoles, however, heavily favored Xbox 360, Microsoft revealed.

During the ongoing BMO Capital Markets Digital Entertainment Conference in New York, COO of interactive entertainment business Dennis Durkin stated the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has doubled up the PlayStation 3.

"Initial feedback from retailers is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 [on Xbox 360] has outsold the PS3 2:1," he said.

Durkin also stated this past Tuesday was the largest day on Xbox Live ever, with over two million concurrent players on at a given time. He also touted the service by taking a jab at Sony, saying Xbox Live had no server issues even with such a large number.

PlayStation 3 owners suffered server outages yesterday due to demand, but Infinity Ward was able to fix the problem in less than a day.

expected

I would be surprised if this was anything different! I mean look at the sales of COD:MW it shows this very trend!

This is mainly due to the 9 million more installbase in the US than anything else!

I am not sure if this impacts your post or not, but the source of this information is Microsoft not Activision. You see, your thread title indicates that the source of this statement is Activision, but the actual article clearly states that Dennis Durkin of MS is making these claims. Your thread is as misleading as are most statements originating from Microsoft.

Nobody doubts that MW2 will sell more units on the 360, but let's not post MS standard PR speak as fact.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

expected.. the game has been advertised like crazy for 360

It wasnt Activison that said it but someone from Microsoft, and how would he know what the PS3 numbers are. Title is misleading

I was thinking the same at first but then question why Activision would take jabs at its own game, or perfer on over the other.  Misleading indeed.

I agree with Squall, this is an American kinda game. Even though Soap McTavish ain't exactly the most American bloke.

I also agree with the OP, the 360 controller is for me much better for FPS, I've died a few times on the PS3 due to my thumbs banging together on those giant redwood analog sticks on the dualshock. I'd take the dualshock 10/10 time for fighters though.

I highly doubt that anyone would argue that the 360 version would outsell the PS3. Regardless, congrats to both console for obtaining a fantastic game.

Another thing is that FPS games tend to sell more in NA than in Europe, which also fits the Xbox360 general market share profile very well.
