'3D Dot Game Heroes just came out, and showed us how a high quality niche game sells on PS3.  Not any better than Wii it turns out.The only real high budget Japanese 3rd party game we've seen on Wii was Monster Hunter 3 and it's outsold everything on the HD consoles so far.'.

Demon's Souls? VC?

Also, FF CC is a high budget JPN 3rd party Wii game.

Demon's Souls isn't 3rd party.  Valkyria Chronicles isn't really niche either (decent budget, big promotion, Sakura Taisen successor).

FFCC is pretty high budget, but it has a host of issues working against and probably would've flopped just as hard regardless of console.

No matter how much promotion a game receives, it's doesn't change what kind of game it is.

Valkyria Chronicles, even in your twisted world where it actually had advertising, will always be a niche game due to game itself.

Advertising worked for FF7 and the Final Fantasy series after that.

Advertising can make a game from a niche genre a popular game.

Up until 11.  Final Fantasy games were basically interchangeable with any other JRPG out there.  Yet FF sold a lot more simply due to the MASSIVE advertising blitz Sony paid for back in the FF7 days.

Advertising can make niche games huge... and they DEFINITLY can make niche games sell to more people who fit in that niche audience.

Advertising can make a niche game sell more, I'm not denying that. But advertising doesn't make a niche game into a mainstream title.

You wouldn't call Final Fantasy games mainstream?

Yet FF7-9 were pretty indistingushable from other dime a dozen JRPGs as far as how the game plays.

Advertising can make a niche game mainstream.  Of course it can only do the trick so often since only so much of a less popular type of game is going to reach the mainstreams hands.

Think of movies.  Comedys, Actions, Dramas = Mainstream.

Things like documentries are niche... yet every once in a while enough advertising will get behind a movie like Supersize me and it goes mainstream.

I don't think Final Fantasy games are mainstream. They're a lot like Metal Gear. Sure, they sell a lot but they're still in a niche genre and will always have that limited appeal that a racer or shooter may have.

I'm sorry, but what's your problem. I don't really care if you think buying an FPS is a junk and prefer RPGs. Hell, I do too.

However, you and I are in the minority. You need to recognize that.

You have to recognize that Final Fantasy isn't just the big hitters. You get plenty of them that sell pretty terribly.

I also think people are miscontruing what I say by mainstream. Let me try and think of a way I can say without using tags like hardcore or casual.

I might even accept MGs is niche

but FF, hell no....people in my school who don't game know about Final Fantasy

gamers who aren't fans of FF know of its existence too

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

how can a series like MGS and FF that sells millions worldwide posibly be niche??? ur whole logic is confusing

@outlawauron

sure I'll see what you come up with in the morning as I'm still confused by what you mean by niche then lol

Even my mom who hasn't played a videogame since SMB on Nes knows about Final Fantasy...Mario & FF, that's it. Ask her about Sonic and...well...
