Oh come on Vayne should be on there somewhere, he exists

I only included Final Fantasy games i've beaten.

Whenever i get into a FFXII fix i always end up off subject grinding liscense points until I lose interest... and then when i go back i start over.

It's my fatal flaw with RPGs.  If I go a week without playing it I need to start from the begining.

From what i know of Vayne i'd probably put him somewhere in the 3-5 range.

3-5 ain't bad considering that his ranking where you are in the game owuld be based almost solely on his speech in Dalmasca.

In reality i just don't hold Final Fantasy Villians in general high regard.

They're mostly traditional type villians who seem to have no point but being evil, or there reason for being evil is completly tenuous.

Final Fantasy does a lot of things right... but when it comes to the villains... they usually botch it up.

Who's your favorite JRPG villain?

I actually mean excluding Kefka for the record.

For favorite he's up there... but I kinda hold a special place for Lavos from Chrono Trigger... at least if we're excluding SRPGs.

Mainly because....

A) He's not really a villain.  He's a lifeform doing what he needs to do to survive and reproduce.  This was... revolutionary at the time.  Or felt like it anyway.

B) Lavos controlled the evolution of the world.  He literally created the heroes who beat him.

Kefka without question, much more evil.

Hell, Those Chosen By the Planet isn't even the best theme song from FFVII.

WOW....nice choice!!! ...i always praise LAVOS as a boss character because hes instinctivelly doin wat he suppose to do.

lol true on both subjects, but one winged angel is still the epic, i mean his name is sung in his song, to this day hes the only character in games i've ever seen where they mention the characters name, let alone praise it.

As for looks, not gonna lie... he looks really badass, and in Advent he does infact look much more wicked VS the way he looks in the original VII, so as far as originals go, i will admit Kefka looks like one evil bastard, while sephiroth had that pretty boy look going on.

Means nothing when comparing each villain in their respective games.

As for boss music, Kefka had a great theme as well.

This doesn't do it justice. Dancing Mad is the best battle theme in the history of the series, so huge and expansive that it beggars the imagination to think that it fit on an SNES cartridge at all. It's emotionally exhausting just to listen to, taking one on a journey that fits the stages of that final battle better than any other song that Uematsu ever wrote. For my money it was his crowning jewel in terms of combat themes. It has not been matched since.

this is one of the MAIN reasons why i want the remake, i really wanna hear this song officially orchestrated.

@ comments below.

i should add Giygas , its really disturbing the boss fight and the music is. considering its in a game that is "Kiddy"

Further recollection would lead me to go like this.

1) Lavos
2) Giygas
3) Kefka

I have a feeling i'm missing other memorable villains.. but i don't think more memorable ones.

Edit: Hah at the above beat me to it.

The Ronald McDonald version is even creepier.

Yeah Giygas can't really be topped insofar as screwed up villains go.

But he's not in this! It wouldn't be fair to include him!

Kefka's pretty plain, sure, but he's effective, and I think that's all that can really be asked of him. He's a bit like Richard III, you know?

Golbez is quality, though.

And when you're done - if that ever happens - I think you'll be willing to look at Vayne and Gabranth and Venat (maybe even Cid) with a hearty dose of respect, or even admiration.

The problem with Golbez isn't so much Golbez as Zeromus.

Goblez is a really effective and cool villian... but it feels like Zeromus really takes away a lot as a cliche (oh this evil guy made me do it) moment.

On the one hand it gives him a chance for redepmption... but on the otherhand it almost feels like you should excuse his being evil from the beggining unlike the other characters whose fault and redemption feel more "real" and of their own making.

I think it would of been a lot more effective if Zemus was ressurected without the whole "mind control" thing.

On this contest, Kefka without a doubt.

Kuja is also one of my other favorite villains because he (maybe not literally) had some balls. Unfortunately, most Americans didn't get the whole satire of him looking like a girl.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
