I just read the review and then saw the video review.

I'm new to this game, so reading it made me go meh. But seeing the video review, my god the graphics is very nice, it looks like a fun game too, but is it a "kids" game? I think its targeted that way, maybe something like teen-young adult, its not because of the gameplay that makes this a "kids" game, its the packaging, the characters the way they behave, its like - Gameplay: everyone, Appeal: Teen to young adults (because of packaging). Frankly this is better than trying to appeal to everyone and ending up bland imo, they also have to cater to Shaun White himself and fans maybe, shrug.

Game Trailer:

People should note that most earlier system games were in fact... targeted at kids.

In addition. Such games are way harder then pretty much any game released today.

If Silver Surfer is aimed at kids... what isn't when it comes to difficulty?

Find me more complex games then the "Romance of the 3 Kingdom" games. on the SNES...

Difficulty has nothing to do with whether a game is targeted at children or not.  It's all theme of the game.

I think Kylie summed up that pretty well.

There are kids games and there are family games, family games are child friendly yet still engaging for adults and not patronising or insulting to them.

Both types can have the same gameplay, but it is everything else that makes the difference, the way the characters look, behave and the humour of it all.

I don't mind family games, I dislike kids games.

Exactly, it is the E for Everyone mentality that Nintendo has that Ubisoft incorporated in Shaun White. I don't play kids games like Dora the Explorer, but I'll play this.

@kergeten

The review makes it sound like the only new feature is the "create a trick mode" which would be meh and not worth a purchase since I have the original, but do you know how many courses there are and if there are any new race modes or objectives? There is a screenshot with ~5 people at a start gate which makes me think it is a new race mode (rather than a time based race), but it isn't really clarified. Also, how would you personally rate this compared to the first?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

I would agree with this statement lets say 15 years ago... today I dunno... Graphicsa dont matter I agree, gameplay has to fun, not to complex, I agree, but difficulty. Well lets look at MKWii and Cars for good examples. They both look like they target the same audience, but while MKWii can give you hell on earth sometimes, when played right, Cars simply remains the same, low-paced, dull experience...

So in todays world, IMO difficulty level is one of the few things that can diferenciate a kids game from a core game. This is just my humble opinion of course and should not be accepted as a fact

I'm 40, i play for more than 30 years, and for me, style >>> realism any day, any time...

And i don't read the opinions of "seasoned" gamers and critics anymore: they're so out of touch, obsessed with their own little "fame" and their supposedly "deep" opinions...

If i want to know if a game's good, i check the feedback from the best VGC members, who share similar tastes in gaming, and i also read Nintendo Life: a site with well written reviews, and scores i agree with most of the time, if not always...

All the other so-called "journalists" may just go play to "who's got the most hardcore d*** out there", but it will be without me... i don't need to know if they give Mario Kart Wii or NSMBWii a 5/10 or a 9/10: their opinions are worthless, and not "seasoned" but actually very childish and immature...

And yes, even when it comes to games i'll buy for my kids, cos' these hypocrites never REALLY think of THAT userbase when they're writing their reviews: they just care about their own tastes, and their own "hardcore" bias...

"A beautiful drawing in 480i will stay beautiful forever...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

"Simple, fun gameplay and stylish visuals - kids game"
That must be used by a lot of game reviewers when reviewing games.

I think this points to the great disconnect between many gaming "experts" and many Wii gamers.

Wii gamers want to play and have fun. We know the difference between reality and games -- because many of us have real lives. That does not appear to be the case with those who feel the high point of gaming is to be in a game with a brown background holding a firearm.

But what age is considered a kid?
A kid can be a child or young person so this can mean upto the age of 28 or I believe 21 is some US states where they are not allowed to have a beer or go to a nightclub until they reach this age.

If a game is fun it's worth playing no matter your age, it's a fear of not fitting in and being different that stops a lot of teens and those in their 20s from playing anything but games that feature killing, cars, drugs and naked females.
It's uncool not to like these type of games when your a young person and most would feel the need to confrom to what is seen as the norm.
