Decent legs, with a good holiday bump it'll reach a million by 2nd week of January. Not bad.
Capcom also highlighted MH3 as exceeding subscription expectations in Japan. Sounds like it's a very profitable venture so far.

Just look at the last five weeks! Sales will also be up in December and with that I think it´s now safe to say that it will be a millionseller. The first ever for a thirdparty on a Nintendo homeconsole in Japan since SNES. And to think that some people still claim this is a flop. I will never understand it 01. it s nowhere near a FLOP
it's a megahit, and should be 2 million seller worldwide too (bad sales in Europe, but decent ones in USA I would say)
Imagine the sales when i will realease as a "platinium"

I'm not sure if it'll get a "Capcom BEST" or whatever rerelease. I think MH3G is more likely in it's place.
I'm also starting to think we might not see the inevitable PSP port for longer than expected (late 2010 at earliest), given MHP2GBest is still moving 10k weekly, MHFU flopped in the west and they just announced that Felyne Village spinoff for early next year.
I don't think it was ever in doubt that this would reach the million mark, it was a matter of "when" not "if." Those calling it a flop were obviously butt hurt at the fact that this is a Wii exclusive. As it stands right now it is the best selling third party console game this gen, the best selling console monster hunter game of all time and judging by capcom's recent financials, a smart bu$iness move.
I think it will hit 1m sold before x-mas. and when this gen is over it will be in the top 5 of best selling third party games in Japan.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
Capcom probably wanted it to sell a liiitle more, but yes, it's doing well.

I wouldn't go that far... top 5 console for sure, but not if we bring in DS/PSP.
When this gen ends, it'll probably be (out of what's already announced now)...
...or console...

I may (probably) be wrong about this, but I believe the Taiko Wii game is near MGS4's numbers, and is still selling, albeit in small numbers.

That's true (600k Taiko Wii vs 700k MGS4 iirc), and Taiko Wii 2 may actually push sales for the first again (like Taiko DS 2 did). I think more likely we'll see other unannounced Wii releases like Monster Hunter 3G or a Dragon Quest VII remake filling up those bottom slots though.

I was going on if it stays consistent at 5k per week or maybe boosts to say 7k and then gets the x-mas bump that it would have a shot of hitting 1m sell through before the end of the year, but it would depend on how big the holiday bump is.
NoName: Had no idea Taiko was near MGS4 numbers that's pretty impressive. Isn't there a sequel on the way though? Wouldn't that cut into the originals sales?

You'd think so, but Taiko DS 2 actually increased sales on Taiko DS 1.
Sequels spurring interest in their predecessors is actually pretty common in Japan. Another example, when DMC4 released, the Best release of DMC3 jumped back into the top 30. Brain Training 1 also surged when Brain Training 2 released. I'm sure there's other examples.
