Forums - Gaming - What are some advantages on buying a console at the end of the war?

Not at all. Were you mad because you didn't see thousands of great movies when they were still playing at a theatre? Maybe that's a bad analogy but I think it captures the idea. I am still disappointed that I didn't get to see Jimi Hendrix play live when the opportunity was there.

You can discover hundreds of great games that you never played going into old systems and looking around. It's actually much harder to find a number of good games on brand new systems, there just aren't as many games. Also your gaming tastes may change and that provides another reason to spend time finding games that you missed.

There's other reasons people might be getting a system late. I didn't play much of anything on the Atari 2600 system when it was brand new because my job didn't allow it. Many years later I did play the games, mostly just the best ones, and I had a good time.

Of course if there is a game that you "must" play and it's on a new system then you're going to get that system. I'm sure many people bought an Xbox360 to play Halo 3 and many also bought a Wii to play Super Mario Galaxy. The only reason I bought a N64 was to play Mario (and I wasn't let down). I guess it could depend on how many "must have" gaming experiences there are out there for you.

Why would they be mad, unless they were not aware of this BEFORE they bought the systems? You seem to be assuming that late adopters somehow don't realize they are late adopting until it's too late (and your context seems to imply people buying the systems for themselves, not as gifts for others).

Do you really think late adopters are that clueless?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Buying a console at the end of a war is actually really smart.
The console is extremely cheap 100-150 dollars.
Good games are budget price.
The good games are out.
Theres no more waiting for "The next game". You've already got "The next game" you just haven't bought it yet.

the question should be why shouldn't you wait til the war is over? There are far more reasons to wait than not to wait.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I got an Xbox 2 years ago. I never once had to look at paying full price for a new game. Kotor, Silent Hill 2, Forza, Beyond Good and Evil, Halo 2 and fable all cost me less than 15 each. And now if I want I can buy a Gamecube or PS2 for a cheap enough price to be able to indulge in their game library.

Honestly, it makes more sense to buy last gens console than it does to buy this gen's console.

So why did I buy a Wii? um... It was on a double dare?

Thats cool stof, but I thought you had a Gamecube?!?

Oh well, anyway I'm looking into getting a Gamecube too, just because its $40 used at my local Gamestop store. So its well worth the purchase, but the only thing is that the Gamecube section in Gamestop is getting smaller, so I think I will have to use either Ebay or Amazon as my source to get used Gamecube games.

in my area the gamecube section is small at places that only carry new games, but if i go to a used game shop there is still tons of GC games. Some games have become rare, but i doubt there is even 1 GC game that would cost you over $50. Ikaruga would be the only thing even close to that.

So why would these late adopters be bothered by this gen graphics. In 3-5 years they will pick up a new system on the cheap and so on.

My bother and I were gamers all growing up but after buying an N64 at lauch he kind of fell out of the loop. He liked some of my PS2 and GC games but never bought a system. Near the end of the cycle Nintendo offered a bundle with the Gamecube system 2 controllers and Double Dash for $100. Circuit city was giving away memory cards with a system and I had a $20 off coupon. So for $80 I got him a sweet setup as a Christmas gift. He has since picked up RE4, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, Smash Bros and a few others never paying more than $15 a piece.

Now he looks as the Wii, 360, and PS3 and likes it all alright but figures maybe in a few years he'll look into it.

I find it funny that anyone would say that people couldn't keep playing last gen games when they see this gen graphics. How can I play my Wii when I see a PS3? How can PS3 players keep playing when they see new PC games with the latest graphics card? I guess we will all just have to suffer through in our graphic ghetto.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

You probably think that because of my Metroid Prime love. But that was because my friend lent me his Wii and MP1 was the game I played on it.

And it doesn't matter if the game section gets smaller, as you don't really want to go near the new games anyways. You want to tackle the old games. The Beat goes on, EB, pawn shops or just about anybody has used games all over the place. damn cheap used games.

Yep. You have to be patient. The next question is:

What are some disadvantages to buying a console at the beginning of the war?
