Forums - Gaming - What are some advantages on buying a console at the end of the war?

I bought a new NES player for $10 at the flea market. It's about the same height and width of a cartridge and a little more than twice as thick. It actually works. It came with two cheap controllers (but they have a built in turbo function). That was cheaper than buying a new 72-pin connector and taking apart my NES Console. I still have 50+ cartridges and I still play them.

I bought a second SNES console a couple years ago (first one was water damaged in a plumbing catastrophe). It was $40 (reconditioned) with two controllers BNIB plus a game. I have tons of games and still play them.

I'm considering buying a PS2 Slim this christmas.

more diversity
lasts longer than first generation of the same product
also cool accesories

It's the same reason the gba has still managed to sell despite the DS being out, plenty of people would rather buy a cheaper system with an abundance of cheap games.

Advantages you get a better idea of which console may be better suited to your interest in games and demographic. For casual gamers it lets you pick the console with the most games and best chance for future games too.

I've been reading this site for months because I bought Nintendo stock. I've always been a PC gamer, but reading about consoles has given me the taste and I just bought a second-hand GameCube with 2 controllers and 16 top games for 125 euro. So now I'm discovering Mario games, SSB etc. I don't care about graphics, only about gameplay, so I think it's a great deal to get to play good games for very little money. If I get a Wii later, I can sell the GC and the games I don't like and keep the controllers and the best games.

Buying really late

pros: it is easy to identify the AAA games
AAA games can be had for cheap
The console itself it very very cheap

Cons: The graphics no longer look impressive
You have to wait a looong time
You cannot play multiplayer with your friends, and if they ever had invited you over to play, you probably failed at the game, because you didn't own it yet.

I plan to buy a PS2 next summer. I plan to buy it for around $30-40, and buy may be 10 games, all AAA. Total it should cost me $100-150. Much cheaper than buying at laucnh, eh? Though IMO you need at least one this-gen system, to stay entertained, and so you can play with your friends.

I bought my xbox fairly late in its cycle. I got it for 2 reasons. First my pc was severly outdated and I didn't have the cash to upgrade. Second I bought into the hype machine that is Peter Moleneaux. Fable dissapointed but it really didnt matter there were a ton of games out I wanted to play that were dirt cheap. It ended up being a great purchase.

I can understand why some are still getting a ps2. A ton of great games for a minimal investment. It makes sense when your on a limited budget.

But wouldn't the late adopters be mad because the new systems are released and they are going to be late to get into the new systems?

If it really bothered them I don't think they would end up being late adopters.
