Buying really late
pros: it is easy to identify the AAA games
AAA games can be had for cheap
The console itself it very very cheap
Cons: The graphics no longer look impressive
You have to wait a looong time
You cannot play multiplayer with your friends, and if they ever had invited you over to play, you probably failed at the game, because you didn't own it yet.
I plan to buy a PS2 next summer. I plan to buy it for around $30-40, and buy may be 10 games, all AAA. Total it should cost me $100-150. Much cheaper than buying at laucnh, eh? Though IMO you need at least one this-gen system, to stay entertained, and so you can play with your friends.
