think of it this way, instead of paying whatever free for XBL, i could be eating lunch, taking my family out for dinner, or going to the movies with that money, with PSN i dont need to worry about a fee that'll pop outta know-where. im sure XBL is good, but its not for those who dont want or need to recklessly spend extra money. Free online is the one thing i have to admit Sony did 100% right this gen.

I strongly disagree with this...beacuse of 1 reason.

Matchmaking with similarly ranked people.

Most of the best games that have matchmaking integrate a system where you won't get your ass handed to you every time you log in. Street Fighter 4, Halo 3, COD, Gears...etc. They will match you with people with similar stats as yours...or atleast try.

Since PSN is free, nothing stops a player that is ranked higher in a game from creative a new account every month and owning people that are jsut learning to play the game. Happens on xbox 360 despite people having to pay for their accounts...I can imagine how bad this is on PS3.

Matchamaking is in almost all games in all consoles these days so its not something on XBL only.

is that the free account's problem ? O_o

i mean, you can play CoD 4 for example and get a prestige ALA get skilled in it, and then go play MW2 even with low levels you are skilled.

in-game levels dont mean anything (except unlocking skins and perks) , its all about skills, and now most FPS's for example look and play exactly the same so if you play "this" one , you are going to be good at "that" one too

You don't understand what Im saying... I know ps3 has matchmaking in many games.

The problem is that if the account is free to make, what stops someone who is very highly ranked in street fighter 4 from creating another account and have his ranking become very low, and have him completely destroy his competition for a few weeks. After a few weeks he can create another account and own everyone again...and again and again...

Free online ruins matchmaking because people can jsut create new accounts when they are tired of fighting with people that are evenly matched with them or better.

thats what i said.

you don't have to be high leveled to be skilled at gaming. its just you are damned good.

i don't think people would bother doing this stuff, since you can play unranked or remove the matmaking thing so low leveled and high leveled players play together.

you are making it sound like a problem but its not

It's not to bad to be honest, i should know, right now im playing Tekken 6 and i gotta say the ranking system is pretty decent on PSN, i've only face like 3 out of 50 people who really, REALLY kicked my ass, all the others were even matchs.

Maybe not many people haven't discovered they can do this yet but its possible to cheat like that. Game like Tekken 6 just came out so most of the cheaters still did not master to bother creating a new account :)

On 360 when playing halo 3 it pisses me right off. The game has been out for over 2 years and it blows when this clan with 100 matches (and like 99 wins) fights against you and rapes you. They are ranked very low since they created a new account but have been playing the game for years.

A game that may have a problem like this oon ps3 would be call of duty 4 I imagine...

LOL!!! 99 wins!? okay i get what your saying then, and yeah CoD4 would be a good example, but i know of a better one WarHawk... they've done that ALOT in WarHawk, so i agree with you on that point, it is highly enraging lulz but what can ya do eh? though i didn't play WarHawk long enough to judge if its a big an issue as you claim it to be sooo..

As for Tekken 6, or any other fighting game for that matter on both 360 and PS3, why would they bother to do that? i mean damn, pride much? i hate spammers btw... -.-

Yeah fighting games are different I guess, but I don't think 12 year old kids that play FPS games have much pride...lol. But I can't blame them as its fun completely destroying someone that is not a on the same skill level. Cowardly but fun...

Infact my freind was doing that on Halo 3 as he woudl buy the 1 month trial cards of ebay and create a new halo account every month. I loved playing doubles with him as his low ranking would ensure we don't get anyone tough to play.

Agreed. But sadly this won't end well....

.... this doesn't have to end well, it doesn't have to end badly, it just is what it is. As for another poster, I'm not trolling... I'm not too sure that some of you even know what that means, instead it seems to be a learned, automatic response given for when you disagree... 'trolling' is somethiing purposefully written to incite other's into arguementative repllies, and that's not at all what I'm doing. If anything, it's more a response to the hundreds of posts I've read claiming that PSN is basically on par with Live... and man, that just 'aint true. Not at all. Maybe there's some gamers out there sitting on the fence about which console to pick up, or even a second console, for them, I'd hope they would find this informative in a some small way, not an attempt to troll.

The PS3's a phenomenal console that does quite a few things the 360 can't, online gaming just isn't one of them.

lol true, but wheres the challange? thats the only way you'll get better, in any game. :) to be the best you gotta go up against the best in my book.

How do you get negative vgchartz money anyway?

Bans deduct money. The more severe the ban, the more money is taken away. The OP has a pretty nice record going. He's been banned on average once every 17 posts.

yeah... the bans have done some serious damage to my VG bankroll, some of them were legit and more than a few were at the hands of over-zealous mods who didn't like what I was saying. But this post certainly isn't ban-material, just an honest opinion from my point of view.

Challenge is fine...but I guess one gets to a point where they work 8 hours a day...go to the gym...come home and make dinner and eat with the gf and then they are looking to play for an hour or two and relax. And they run in to a 12 year old kid with not a care in the world and who is playing the game 30 times more than they hve the time to...and on top of that the kid is cheating in his rank and making new accounts.

I think that would drive anyone to go postal...

^Are saying that your gonna kill a 12 year or your girlfriend? j/k
I really haven't experienced Killzone 2 on PSN much worse for alt accounts than Halo 3. It might be because more people play Halo 3 but I thought the same way as you. I do get pissed getting spanked by 12 year olds in Halo.

thats not even a valid point (unless you are talking about them intergrating that in the future)

No one does that on the PSN ( I play CoD4 almost daily)

If a "skilled" player makes a new PSN account his gonna be a level one Private (the orange traingle without the bottom) and your gonna be thrown into a game with random ranked people. You might end up playing with all 10th level prestiged players so it wont matter if you make a new account.

Besides what would be the point in making new account after new account ? you cant transfer those stats from one to the other. You cant do anything with them

disolitude, why are you arguing here?

I mean, you apparently don't have a PS3 so you have no first-hand experience and we don't have threads appearing in the Sony forum complaining about this "problem."  You have no basis for your argument other than "making account is free so I assume there is this huge problem."  If we were seeing threads on this week after week then I'd step back and say "Yeah, disolitude has a point here" but we're not.

This argument is making you look really foolish so please talk about something productive like cross-game chat or feature consistency, both of which are far better among Live gaming than its PSN counterpart.

1. I owned a ps3 but that has nothing to do with my point. It happens on all platforms. Are you saying PS3 gamers are better people that people gaming on xbox and dont cheat...especially since its free for them to do so? give me a break...

2. Seraphic confirmed it does happen in games...such as Warhawk. I will bet you any money it happens in COD, MGS4 or any game thats been around for a while.

3. You obviously don't play FPS games or fighters if you think this isn't a big issue and doesn't happen and are calling me foolish for bringing it up. I know RPGs don't have that problem...
