Forums - Gaming - German Mag Claims Ubisoft DEMANDED High Score for AC2 Review!!

@welshbloke

You're absolutely right in the points that you've addressed, but the same goes for all games, not only Uncharted 2. What would have happened to GTA4, Halo 3, MGS4, Gears of War, SMG, and many of the high profile games, had the 1 - 10 score actually been used to it's entire scale.

Well, there goes all of my respect for Ubisoft. I don't understand why they did that. It's been getting very positive reviews from both the OXM and OPM, so that right there surprised me. Although i hope the game does well and i'll be picking it up, I think it's going to become a sell out game.
Good find darth

Who's to say OXM and OPM didn't just accept the same deal?

A videogame reviewer trying to defend their integrity is kind of like a prostitute trying to defend their purity ...

I have read the German Website now, and "Computer Bild Spiele" does not say the Game doesn't deserve a "Sehr Gut". It says that Ubi did not give them an early review copy for stated reasons.

So, they will have the Review in their next Issue, instead of this one.

To a degree i can understand Ubi not wanting the possibility of having bad Reviews before the game is even released.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Metacritic scores can be inflated artificially due to them having a Gausian Bell type of statistical count, as long as you push the final 5% of the scores, the entirity of the statistics will come along, the same goes for the first 5%. So, most of the times, that Gausian spread is artificially inflated or deflated until the scores even out, at that moment it doesn't actually matter much what scores are added, the statistics per se is tamponized.

The game that i'm referring is a PS game, The Grandstream Saga, it had a 6.7 in Gamespot and a 4/10 in RPGDreamer

http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/granstreamsaga/index.html?tag=result;title;0
http://www.rpgdreamer.com/gs/gsrev1.html

Yeah I'm sure the results do get inflated due to that

but in general all I'm saying is that I've found metacritic's ratings to be a very good guide....I have enjopyed 90 + games more than 70 - 75 games countless times

Because I have a very tight budget, Metacritic is really one of the best ways to judge the quality of the game (obviously I "read" the reviews, not just look at the scores).....for someone who can just buy 1 - 4 games a year for PS3 (£40 is too much) metacritic is vital.

but I'm sure when I start earning in the future, I'll have more freedom to buy whatever game I want & so on.

I understand that most people use metacritic as a standart to see if a game is worth the buy or it isn't. That's why the review system should be more strict and complete than it is nowadays. Personally, I liked the old system in where only a few select and recognized institutions reviewed the games, and not some unknown gaming media that can manipulate their own agenda to further inflate personal goals.

On the one hand, hats off to them for publishing this.
On the other hand "Computer Bild Spiele" is an absolutely crappy magazine and part of the "Bild" family, which is THE infamous German tabloid, and the biggest selling newspaper in Europe. It's the very opposite of serious journalism.
(Well, my personal opinion is that "Bild" is pure evil.)

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

pretty standard practice. If you don't want to post a highscore, don't post them early. That is what Ubisoft is saying.

This is why low profile (usually subpar games) never get early review, their scores just don't qualify for that.

Stuff like this happens all the time, it happened with Assasins creed 1 aswell, or not so long ago with Eidos and batman and I thought with rockstar aswell.

Batman? I know Eidos was guilty of that for the latest Tomb Raider, but i don't remember them being accused of that for Arkham Asylum.
