Forums - Nintendo - Can Nintendo satisfy Christmas?

Nintendo will not satisfy demand this Christmas. How much would it take to satisfy demand? Nobody knows, that's the problem with not being able to satisfy demand. I think the guesses in the original post are not bad. Japan may need more than 2.5 million units if Wii Fit takes off...but we'll never know because I don't think there will be 2.5 million units in Japan anyway. I don't know if there will be enough units of Wii Fit, either.

The best case sceario is to fall short of satisfying Demand, but still sell millions over the next few months, so no I don't think Nintendo wants to satisfy demand, but they still want to sell 4-5 million WW

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I doubt their supply can top their overwhelming demand.

I have been thinking about this for a while now.

Analysts say that, because Wii sales did not go down despite Halo 3 boosting 360 sales, the Wii is obviously not catering to the core gamer/only 'casuals' are buying the system. What it could mean is that 250k(sales boost) core/hardcore gamers decided not to buy a Wii this month, in favor of the 360 and Halo 3. This, however, resulted in 250k other people waiting to get their hands on a Wii to be able to purchase it. Therefore, Wii sales are never affected.

It IS an overwhelming demand, indeed.

That's kind of an odd assumption. Who says the extra 250k who bought a 360 were planning on buying a Wii? It could be the same group of people keeping the Wii sales up, 360 and the Halo 3 launch having nothing to do with it...either assumption could be true.

Well, obviously not everyone who bought a 360 would have bought a Wii otherwise but didn't. But the point his (flawed) scenario illustrated is completely true: when demand outstrips supply, fluctuations in demand are invisible from the perspective of sales. Any judgements on the audience of the Wii based on a lack of fluctuation in Wii sales are folly.

So...I think stores will sell out of the Wii. I don't think Ninty can meet demand. But if they do...so Wii's will sit on the shelves for a week or two before being bought up.

@Ben,

I believe I assumed COULD, making my speculation valid . Final-Fan actually sums it up very well.

No it won't have enough supply to satisfy the demand for Wii this Christmas. It's one of the hottest products for this holiday season so there is no possible way they could satisfy it. I really don't know when they will be able to satisfy the demand. Maybe not until this time next year.

Blown Up & QFT

To Each Man, Responsibility

For that matter, analysis of software ratio is also difficult to calculate considering low amounts of amazing/must-have titles, or even an adequate number of decent software- at least, for the first half of the year. Holiday and beyond is looking very promising.

While they point the finger at casuals, you hear that even core gamer have only gone through one or two games,Zelda and Metroid/RE4, and now have their Wii's collecting dust, allegedly.

I'm blushing!
