Forums - Nintendo - Did Nintendo hang BattalionWarsII out to dry?

However, I will admit that Metroid Prime 3 could have benefitted more from advertising. It was never a huge blockbuster, but it is a million-selling franchise.

I\'m a bit confused, though. People say they haven\\\'t seen commercials for Prime 3? I have seen tons of them, as well as Mario Strikers Charged. I haven\\\'t seen a single Bioshock. Maybe Heavenly Sword when I was jumping through Spike TV.

@The_vagabond7

Doesn\'t Gamestop choose what games to advertise, just like they choose what games to stock?

I don't recall ever seeing a Mario Strikers commercial...but I did see the Bioshock commercial alllll the time around its release.  Good though, because it's a great game.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

^I have never seen a Bioshock commercial.

What TV stations do you watch? Do you watch a lot of TV?

I watch TV all the time, even while playing games(two TV's in the same room)

nintendo's always sucked at marketing their games.

If the games gets reviewed well though, I'd expect word of mouth to work well.

Nintendo adverts normally suck so bad anyway, maybe they're just saving their money.

I don't watch TV much...I saw the Bioshock commercial on Discovery Channel a lot.

I'm sure each location does get to choose donwii, but if no promotional materials are created, and made available then they can't choose. I doubt gamestop makes all of their own cut outs and the the like. I dunno, maybe they do. I don't know what I'm talking about, where's my pants?!

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Maybe, just maybe, Nintendo doesn't care about the raw number of units sold. Maybe they care more about profit.

Just a thought, but the other companies put millions into marketing and are posting losses; Nintendo might actually weigh the cost of marketing to the profit margins.

I don't know, maybe they have some executives that read a text book while they were getting their MBA's. Maybe Nintendo promotes and fires executives based on performance instead of how well they suck up to the boss.

Maybe Nintendo games stay up in the charts longer because they don't blow all the momentum a product may or may not have the first week.

I don't know these are just crazy ideas.

Paraphrase of some earlier comments: "They should take a cue from MS or Sony"
My response: "Why?"

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

steven787 makes some good points. While I do think Nintendo could put more into marketing its games (especially Metroid Prime 3), it's possible that the budget is being saved for marketing the disruptive games that really push the system.

Let's be honest here: Wii is selling to new gamers. If the 12 million players were all hardcore, Prime 3 would have sold a lot more. If it's the new gamers that are keeping hardware sales up there week after week after week, then it's the new games that require marketing.

BWii and MP3 are out there for those hardcore gamers that bought the system, but we know about the games anyway.
