Forums - Sales - Survey: Xbox 360 not high on kids' holiday wish lists

This holiday season, more kids want a new Nintendo DSi, Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii than want a Microsoft Xbox 360, according to a survey by Game Crazy.

Out of 863 respondents, 66 percent of teens and tweens said they want a new gaming system next month, and 15 percent of them want an Xbox 360. The most desired gaming system was the Nintendo DSi, which 24 percent of respondents wanted. The PlayStation 3 and Wii – the Xbox 360's competitors – were each at 21 percent, Game Crazy said.

Only the Sony PSP was lower than the Xbox on kids' wish lists; 12 percent wanted one of the portable PlayStations.

While the Wii had, since its 2006 release, consistently been the monthly U.S. sales leader in the market, the PS3 jumped to the top spot in September. The Xbox 360 dropped from second place to third as consumers, excited by the release of the smaller PS3 Slim, took advantage of price cuts for all three main consoles.

The PS3 also got a recent boost in interest when Sony announced it would soon be adding Netflix service. That had been one of the exclusive draws to the Xbox 360, which has featured Netflix movie downloads since 2008.

Here, according to Game Crazy, are the most-desired games this holiday season. Xbox 360 games are in bold.

Wait... "New Super Mario Bros. (DS)" ... O_O .. that game is gonna fly by the 20 million before the end of the year

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

well, I expected this to happen. It was inevitable

Is it just me, or are people wanting to buy a PS3...but still the most desired games are all DS and Wii?

Aside from Boys 14-17 years old (which has always been the XBOX strongest market), it pretty much looks like the Nintendo machine isn't dying at all. If anything, its right on track.

I can't believe so many people want NSMB for DS after all this time.

And I also can't believe that NSMB for Wii didn't show up in any of the lists!

What was the methodology behind the survey? Is this a statistical sample? How were these responses obtained? It is way too easy to lie with statistics for me to take any report at face value unless it was obtained by a professional tracking firm.

It did show up on one (Girls 14-17).

Also, the actual advertisements haven't seem to have started full force for the game.  Only internet marketing and such.  Does this mean girls are more 'hardcore' than guys now?

MW2 was the only unreleased game on the list to begin with.

These are kids, they are not hyped for anything they only heard about, only for stuff they already played at a friend's house.

... Very true. I remember when I was like that.

Well alright then, I'll forgive it.

I'm actually amazed at the hype towards NSMB, the game have been out for a loooooooooong time now, how come they have yet to own the game?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
