^ stores preorder?
I know this is a minor point, but some people pre-order 2-3 times at various places and pick the best deal

still no update about the numbers.. i guess it'll just be written off.

Well, ioi announced that he had to lower numbers due to them being much higher than the actual numbers.
Also, store pre-orders are the amount of copies that retailers order before the game launches. Known as the first shipment.

People have personal and business lives to deal with, and Gamestop is not open 24/7. Additionally, for a pre-order, you have to go the the exact store you pre-ordered from or your credit is not applied. Those pre-orders will factor in to the second and third week sales. Don't forget that some pre-order bonuses are given at the time of pre-order, meaning that you can get exclusive content without ever having bought the game. Shit, I pre-ordered Uncharted 2 and got the free booster. Then, I bought UC2 at a different gamestop. I then finally went back to the gamestop that I actually preordered from and changed my pre-order credit to MW2. |
That doesn't make any sense. Your not taking into account the majority of people that buy their games without a pre-order. So are you saying that a massive number of people who had laid down money for a game they anticipated changed their pre-order one week before the release of the game and then no additional people walked into the store and bought a copy? Considering every game I have ever seen has sold more opening week than what it had for pre-orders I would say your logic is wrong and that ioi simply over tracked the game by a lot which is very likely as he himself has admitted that they have trouble accurately predicting pre-orders for games.
On a side note I honestly think the same thing is going on for MAG. I just can not see its pre-orders being so high especially after comparing it to other games on the list which are established franchises that have sold millions but have less pre-orders than a game with almost zero advertisement and hype.
The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

Well, considering that first week sales only take 1-2 days worth of sales, you're saying that a majority of the games purchased are done by people who have not pre-ordered but come in and buy a game on day 1?
This is plausible, but it's not set in stone.
Also, do you think MW2 sales on day 1 will be more than 4.5M?

hum, so we are going to have lot of surprise if the pre-order are "bs like"
Time to Work !
i think it was overtracked, preorders may have large margins of errors, even some games after released have big ones. Preorders are even harder to track
An dbtw, i dont really knw why people expected the preorders to be 100 percent accurate. I think the preorders gives us an idea how first week sales will be for the game will perform. Its more of a within a range rather than a final figure. I think the margin of error will range up to 30 percent, but still at least it gives us an estimation beforehand, so we'd knw which games will actually perform
