For a long time I've been keeping a close eye on the sales of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy ... and on sales of pretty much all other Wii games, for that matter, but that's besides the point.
Anyway, both of them easily crushed their immediate predecessors (Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Mario Sunshine), and both of them have pretty solid legs holding them up.
As of right now, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is at 8,75 million and Super Mario Galaxy is at 8,20 million. Last week, Brawl sold 27k worldwide, and Galaxy sold 11,5k.
However, Brawl was released later than Galaxy, has better legs at the moment, and also has higher sales at the moment. Brawl is pretty much a shoe-in to reach 10 million sometime down the line. Pretty much the only way for Brawl not to hit 10 million would be if it's sales were suddenly cut off for some enigmatic reason.
As for Galaxy, the call is tougher. Galaxy has a direct sequel in the pipeline which will most likely cut off the sales of the original. Some people would argue that it would instead increase the sales of Galaxy, but I'm pretty sure that it'll bring the continued sales of Galaxy down.
Even with holiday boosts, I don't think Galaxy will reach 10 million. I hope it does, but I don't think it will. As earlier stated, however, Brawl is a no-brainer.
Discuss.
