Forums - Nintendo - Brawl and Galaxy: Will they reach 10 million?

For a long time I've been keeping a close eye on the sales of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy ... and on sales of pretty much all other Wii games, for that matter, but that's besides the point.

Anyway, both of them easily crushed their immediate predecessors (Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Mario Sunshine), and both of them have pretty solid legs holding them up.

As of right now, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is at 8,75 million and Super Mario Galaxy is at 8,20 million. Last week, Brawl sold 27k worldwide, and Galaxy sold 11,5k.

However, Brawl was released later than Galaxy, has better legs at the moment, and also has higher sales at the moment. Brawl is pretty much a shoe-in to reach 10 million sometime down the line. Pretty much the only way for Brawl not to hit 10 million would be if it's sales were suddenly cut off for some enigmatic reason.

As for Galaxy, the call is tougher. Galaxy has a direct sequel in the pipeline which will most likely cut off the sales of the original. Some people would argue that it would instead increase the sales of Galaxy, but I'm pretty sure that it'll bring the continued sales of Galaxy down.

Even with holiday boosts, I don't think Galaxy will reach 10 million. I hope it does, but I don't think it will. As earlier stated, however, Brawl is a no-brainer.

Discuss.

Looks at sells of wiifit even though wiifit plus came out..... Galaxy will make 10 million....

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

This holiday is the make-or-break for Galaxy. Hopefully NSMBWii will be able to give it a leg up.

The thing is, for Galaxy to hit 10 million ... at the rate it's going now, not counting holiday boosts at the moment, it would take almost 4 years. And that is if it's sales were just the way they are now and didn't decrease at all for 4 years. I severely doubt Galaxy will get very far above 9 million, honestly. Last holiday it looked fantastic, but then it got adjusted down like 10 times after that. I really don't think Galaxy will be able to hit the 10 million mark, though I'd be very happy to be proven wrong.

I'm not sure about Galaxy, but Brawl probably will reach 10millions in some months. For Galaxy it depends in price reduction and the sequel. If Gakaxy 2 comes out in March but the original game is sold for 20$ it's pretty sure it will reach 10millions...but we are speaking of Nintendo so I don't know if there'll be a price cut.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

We're speaking Nintendo so we do know if there will be a pricecut. There won't =P.

The arrival of Super Mario Galaxy 2 will surely cause Nintendo to drop the price of the original so a sales increase is likely but another 2 million is unlikely.

Also New Super Mario Bros. Wii is likely to severely damage both SMG and SMG2.

Super Smash Bros on the other hand will reach 10 million when all is said and done.

I think Galaxy will hit 9-9.5 million but 10 million seems just out of reach. Brawl should hit 10 million in 2010 unless it starts experiencing negative sales or something.

@puffy. Why do you say NSMB would damage Galaxy?

I personally thought the opposite. I thought that after playing NSMB people might get a bit of Mario cravings =P

They both would if Nintendo would start up Player's Choice on Wii.
