Quantic Dream: Heavy Rain to be a PS3 system seller… when it finally arrives

Heavy Rain is one of the many PS3 games that seems to have been on the way for an absolute age but never actually appear. I’m loathe to mention PS3 exclusives in the same sentence as delays because it opens up a world of pain for expectant PS3 owners who are forever waiting for the next big game. And the next big game is always the one touted as “a PS3 system seller.”

As great a game as Metal Gear Solid 4 is, it wasn’t a system seller. The same is true of LittleBigPlanet, and this year has seen the system seller that is Killzone 2 fail to truly shift units. But Quantic Dream’s CEO David Cage is confident Heavy Rain is going to different. In fact, he suspects it’s already shifting units. He told IGN:

"This experience should be available exclusively on PlayStation 3, and we want people to buy a PlayStation 3 because of Heavy Rain. We’re really happy at the moment – and I hope it’s going to last – that when we go onto forums we find people watching the trailers and stuff and saying ‘this is the game that’s going to make me buy a PlayStation 3.’

I really do hope this game does well but could it be a system seller?

Around the Network

Well, most games will push a few systems (though sometimes it isn't even noticeable), so in that sense I'd say Heavy Rain will be a system seller... But will it give a noticeable, prolonged impact? I don't think so.

I beg to differ.... MGS4 boosted PS3 sales by around 180% in America and 700% increase from the week before in Japan .

Pathetic Earthlings

huh, just how many systems do they think cgi will buy.

Well with a game like this it will sell a few because it's unique enough. Still - it won't be a large or sustained increase.

Around the Network

All depends on marketing. If they get the marketing right it could push 3 or 4 million.

One game may not sell systems - but the console's library does.

Btw, MGS4 did sell systems.

MGS4 wasn't a system seller? The PS3 outsold the Wii that week, and tripled the 360.

If they expect it to do more than that, they will be sorely disappointed.

MGS4 was a system seller.....

OT: I doubt HR will move any system at all kinda like infamous but im sure the game will be well received and will do fine just as long as it's marketed properly.

sigh....i hope he doesn't get dissapointed by all of his statements. i mean heavy rain looks interesting and all, but come on now, this kind of talk will not only raise the expectations of nerds like us online, but also the entire world....xD
