really from the start of this gen alot of people never really owned an HDTV, thats why nintendo stuck with SD, whats wrong with that? its called business you make more money doing it.

That is completely false

Did you actually read the comment? You just claimed there were 0 people who hadn't owned and HDTV back then.

Did you read the comment? He said not many people had an HD TV, when a large percentage of the population already had an HD TV in late 2006.

Not the majority

A large percentage, not the majority but a very large percentage in 2006, today I believe 70% of U.S households if not more own an HD TV.

No way is it that large.  We would be lucky to say 70% of all TV sales today are HD.  But total households owning it is another issue.

to be honest Nintendo made a huge mistake not making the Wii HD.

If they did it for the Wii's orig release then the would be no such thing as a HD war and the Wii would be sitting on sales that would make the DS look average.

And i really believe that. It would have had the hardcore and casuals. batman AA, Assassins Creed, Final Fantasy 13, Tekken 6 and other big 3rd party games aswell as Nintendo's first party all on the little white box.

It would have been killer

The reason Nintendo didn't put in HD is because it was too expensive. The price would have been to much for the mainstream audience. Then the wii would have ended up like the PS3 - forced to do painful pricecuts. Besides HD penetration is not even that big now. I sure wasn't then.

What makes you think adding (at least) 100 dollar to the launch price of the wii would have been succesfull?

Too expensive + low established base = not practical to do.

no... because Nintendo is going to 4-d... :)

On a serious note: no... I dont need an hd wii because is the same thing as the wii...
though your first reason is probably wrong... because those (HARDCORE GAMERS) are the ones going bonkers for ps eye but im not sure about natal... I think its to early but time will tell... anyways have a nice day!

oh and another note... not everyone is going bonkers for ps eye... Im just refering to people who were hating the wii mote ...

Don't need HD.If I wanted it I would play on my PC.

The only people who "need" an HD Wii are publishers who wish they could find a way to broaden their multiplatform publishing strategy without having to go to extra effort (e.g. Square Enix and their claim that the next-gen Wii is 2 years off. Probably actually true, but the only reason to make that claim is to placate investors who might be mad that there's a 55 million install base that SE has been mostly neglecting), or bitchy journalists/gamers who want to see Nintendo admit their mistakes and finally catch up to the rest of the industry.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I actually like the graphics on the Wii.... I don't have any issues with what I know the system can do. I do have issues with lazy developers though.

More games should approach the technical specs of games like Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Klonoa, No More Heroes, The Conduit or Super Paper Mario.

What's holding the developers back from making good looking games? The Gamecube has a small library of games but most all of the games on it look quite good.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Zelda Wii and possibly Metroid Other M are two good reasons.

IIRC, HDTV penetration was sitting at (roughly) 10% in 2005 when the XBox 360 launched and, (sometime in 2007) after most electronics stores stopped selling CRTVs, they projected HDTVs to hit 50% penetration in households in 2010. Since then the economic downturn has had an impact on sales of high-end electronics but it is uncertain how this has impacted projections of HD adoption. On top of this, historically a large portion of videogame consoles have been placed in a rec-room/den which tends to have a households second television which would be less likely to be a HDTV than their first console.

When you combine all these factors, it is unlikely that more than 1/3 to 1/2 of HD consoles this generation are hooked up to HDTVs; and it probably won't be a major selling feature to the majority of console owners until 2011 or later.

I guess the only real reason I can see is that, eventually, SD TV will be gone so any console will need to output at a resolution suited to minimum HD TV - not sure that affects Wii.

Also, I don't think there will be a Wii HD - I think that's the wrong way to look at it. Each Nintendo console has seemed distinct to me, each with its own name and style, so I rather take the view that at some point Nintendo will release an HD console, the question is whether it will be their next one or the one after.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I don't know why PS360 owners make such a big deal about HD. If graphics matter that much to you, buy a gaming rig. Maybe I'm wrong but I could have sworn that PC games had 1920x1200 res like 7 years ago. Maybe even before that. And nowadays I think PC games have even more ridiculously high resolutions and they play them on ridiculously big monitors.
