Forums - Sales - Will Forza 3 even outsell GT5 Prologue?

@ps3-sales

You're absolutely right, and to prove my entire point, i'll leave just this tiny tidbit of information that people didn't even bother to research

GT4:p sales - 1,36 M on a an almost 60M console by the release of GT4:p
GT5:p sales - 3.22 M on a barely 12M console by the release of GT5:p

So not only GT5:p sold almost triple the amount of GT4:p, counting only physical format, it also did it on a 1/5 of the install base at the release time of both games. What does that tell you people?

that tell me that you can't make comparaison wsith the past

was GT4pro the first GT on PS2 : no
was GT4pro a big improvement over GT3 : no
was GT4 long to come after GT3 : no
was GT5pro the first GT on PS3 : yes
was GT5pro a big improvement over GT4 : yes
was GT5 long to come after GT4 : YES

The only point that can be valid in your discussion is GT4 not being the first GT on ps2.

GT4 was a big improvement over GT3, may not have been in the graphical department, but in the quantity department it was almost 5 times as big as GT3, get your facts straight, not only in car and track content, but also in the simulation aspects, giving you tuning, customization and performance parts in much more quantity and quality that GT3 ever did.
GT4 took almost 4 years in the making since GT3 released, quite as much time as GT5 is taking over GT4.
GT5:p is the first GT on PS3 true, but, since the release of GT4, it's the second GT to have a true competition, which could have drawn sales from it, yet it was not the case
GT5:p is only a graphical improvement over GT4, since content wise it still lacks and it has the same basic content as GT4:p had.
GT5 is taking just one more year to come out after GT4, pratically the same time it took for GT4 to come out after GT3.

==> well, OK, I didn't know there was so much improvement

GT4 took almost 4 years in the making since GT3 released, quite as much time as GT5 is taking over GT4.

==> well ok for this one too ...

GT5:p is the first GT on PS3 true, but, since the release of GT4, it's the second GT to have a true competition, which could have drawn sales from it, yet it was not the case

==> that doesn't matter. close to no game can match GT sales power seriously. The competition argue is not good IMO.
also, the competition was from FM2/PGR4 that were both good but not so amazing in term of sales. NFS is more dangerous than FM in a way ...

GT5:p is only a graphical improvement over GT4, since content wise it still lacks and it has the same basic content as GT4:p had.

==> yeah, but it was cheaper and bundled. Was GT4pro bundled ?

GT5 is taking just one more year to come out after GT4, pratically the same time it took for GT4 to come out after GT3.

==> yeah, but GT5pro was still one of the only worth racing game on PS3 for a longtime ...

GT4:p had bundles here in europe, which sold like crap due to them being bundled for 300 euros at a time that the PS2 was about 250 euros. Even then, GT5:p sold amazingly without the bundles, I don't think that you can't account 2M difference on bundles only, plus we're not even taking into account DD from the PSN which can easily be 1M more.

You're right about the competition not matching GT sales, yet it was one of the main reasons why GT4 lost so many sales, especially in NA territory, because Forza had online, and it was a huge deal for NA even at that time. Hopefully GT5 will correct this.

NFS has always been catered to a different racing crowd, most of the people that I know, love the GT series and hate the NFS since NFS:Hot Pursuit. That's because they went towards a totally different direction since that game, alienating almost the entire fan base that they had been constructing since the PS/Saturn days.

well,

I agree for NFS : i t appeals to differents crowd but NFS Shift is now trying to simulation

also, let's wait and see, personally, I doubt GT5 will perform as stellar as GT1/2/3

People can discuss "Gran Turismo 5 to sell over 15 Million LTD or only over 10?" here - http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=87393

@libellule

I don't think it will do quite GT3 numbers, but it will definetilly sell over the numbers of GT4. It has all the same conditions that GT3 had at the time.

@Libellule

Yeah, I kinda get the feeling we went around in circles to finish up in pratically the same conclusion :P even 10M is huge for any singular game.

Well, except it's not on the market leading console with the mass casual audience.
