There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying what Gabe Newell said in the past was smart, but it's not like he stood on a pedestal at a press conference and belted these quotes out, which is the impression I've gotten from many people in this thread. I've seen the words "PR", "going out of their way", etc. used.
In fact, people are still holding Gabe Newell to comments he made years ago, when his interviews in the last few months have been very nice and apologetic towards PS3 owners. But we'll remember what interviews we choose to remember right? Whichever give us the best advantage to remain bitter and angry?

That's just it. No one has to hold Valve to past comments at all, because they keep coming up with new excuses and insults.
Your statement makes no sense, in that regard. People are upset with Valve's negative comments, and senseless excuses, because they could just be keeping their mouths shut about it, like every other X360 exclusive developer does. Worse than that, this recent comment can actually be perceived to target the PSN community, rather than PSN or Sony itself. The actual users/potential consumers?
I'm sure the Valve guy meant "PSN service", but... he didn't actually explain anything about that comment. He just "blamed PSN" and didn't give a good reason. Not very constructive criticism, I'd have to say.
He's just criticizing. He's not trying to be helpful, not trying to get anyone to change anything to make potential consumers happy (i.e. PS3 owners who want Valve games), etc. He's just bashing.
Hence, the complaints.
He/Valve deserves every bit of it, until they start treating their potential consumers and business partners with some respect.
