Forums - Microsoft - The vgchartz ranking game--Gears of War

9.9

- Graphics at the time where stunning.

- multiplayer was on par with halo, no game has come close.

- story was addictive and really gave you a since of the end of the world experience.

with marcus adding to the bad a-- role of a cold harded hero.

- Voice acting was good and fit the game perfectly.

- Achievements added to game replay value, 10,0000 kills online or the (seriously achievement) being one.

- The introduction of a one button due all, at the time was unheard of. A= run, slide to cover, duck, jump and climb

over objects.

- 3rd person game play was awsome, shaking when you run making the experience more real.

-  The amount of blood and gore was  great, chainsaw kills, head shots and many unique ways to kill your enemy.

- amount of weapons introduced to the video game world not yet seen, hammer of dawn, torgue bow, chainsaw riffle, boom shot,

and frags you can stick to the enemy.

- a bad a-- alien race to pound with pride.

- different worlds that made the game one heck of a experience..

- game could have been a lil longer but achievements made up with replay value.

My favorite split-screen co-op game of all time. The single-player and online are both pretty good, but the co-op is what really makes the game for me.

I played it at my friends house. I did not get the hype. Maybe it was because I was playing a 2006 game in 2009..lol

7.5

A little too overhyped and I think appealing mostly to teens.

Lacking and subpar story telling, annoyingly macho stupid space marines as main characters, feels a bit too bulky and inflexible movement/exploration options, 360 version missing most impressive boss battle (felt strange already before the PC version), annoying unappealing vehicle section, unrealistic crouched running, significant texture pop-ins, dissapointing end game boss battle, short game, need XBox Live gold to play online (and it had issues at the time even with limited 4x4 max battles when I tried).

Well polished graphics and nice shooting mechanics.

Excellent game from start to finish. Controls are still the number 1 TPS control system. Cover is seemless. Graphics were king for a long time and a new series was born. Multiplayer was pretty good to. Still play it now.

Pros:
- For the time it was released it really helped define "next generation"
- Single player campaign was challenging, and co-op was a blast.
- Visceral action in "execution" multiplayer matches has yet to be matched IMO

Cons:
- Host advantage in multiplayer
- Glitchers in multiplayer
- Ranked matchmaking was jacked
