Forums - Sony - GT5 cost is $60 million: Kazunori Yamauchi

I think that with the link you provided, it supports that the developmental cost was between 60-70 million. How much did you say you thought it was again?

GT5 cost 60m.

He did not say GT5p and GT5 cost 60m, some food for you all.

Don't act like you know everything because he did not go all into much detail now did he.

Slimebeast are you actually pretending that you know more about the budget of the game more so than the man behind it ?

Keep going I haven't had a good laugh in a week

japan has a form of universal health care I believe. So healthcare would be irrelevant it is provided by the government.

if it's like France it comes in the form of taxes companies have to pay based on employees salaries so it comes to the same in the end and has to be counted...( someone pays for that healthcare in the end).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

You can't be serious? I'm sure they'll have to sell several million to make up the cost of 60 million. They'll probably drop another 20 million on advertising.

If developers got the entire $60 for a each game sold I don't think so many would be bankrupt.

This is just amazing. Amazing interview. Amazing GT5. Only on PS3.
GT5 10-15 mln. LTD sales are inevitable.

I was thinking $100 mill. I was under the impression that Polyphony had 2-300 members, and also I remember reading that each car took 6 months to model by one man.

That would mean one man can make 10 cars in the 5 years of development. But the game has 1000 cars, so there would be needed 100 team members fully dedicated justfor car modeling if the 'one man 6 months per car' was true.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_5

"In an April 2008 interview, game creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that 150 people had worked on Gran Turismo 5 for three years"

If release is in March 2010, that's another 2 years. So total dev time is 5 years with 150 people.

150 people x $100.000 = 15 mill per year

5 x 15 = 75 mill

Fair enough. Now another question...

Where are you getting your $100,000 figure from?

It's the common number, used by the majority on VGC, and mostly it's source is based on industry sources, for example the Gears budget presentation at GDC or something, where it was apparent that on average, one team member is associated with a $100,000 cost.

But without a solid figure, your entire prediction could be WAY off....

What do u mean? According to Squilliam and others it's industry practice to account each team member with a cost of $100,000 per year.

That is solid.

The 100,000 figure. Where is that coming ftrom though?

Mainly from here:

Also this, but take it with a grain of salt (I think the numbers are too high):

2008 Game Developer Salary Survey Reveals $79,000 Average Income

That is a very misleading slide.

It would have you believe no QA was done on the game at all and that is the part of the development that is people intensive.......

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

WHats QA stand for?

you cant be serious... Are you? Please tell me you arent. Being a first party developer sony probablly gets about 35 dollars per game. 2 million is several million to you?
