No, it's not. He has nothing to back that number up.

GT 5 wasn't in the dev process since 2003 like FF XIII was. Also, it doesn't have individual voice actors for every NPC, and won't have the sheer amount of...stuff that FF XIII will have. It isn't inconceivable that FF will cost about $100m.
Dont think the game will have any problem making money for PD and Sony.
60 bucks at retail is approx 40 US to shops. BD manu costs 5 bucks and then you only have the advertising costs and Sony Royalties to pay.
They will probably rake in about 25 US per copy in the initial weeks.
So approx 2.5 million sales will break them even.
I doubt this will a problem. This will probably be Sony and the PS3's biggest money spinner to date.
great interview...yes 60 mill is really a small amount...i really cant wait for this game but my hope of a simultaneous release is gone!would be cool if they would release it in April...with the FF XIII april rumors this would be one of the best month in Europe and US in Playstation history!
but the timing is wrong IMO...lets say they release it in april 2010 and it would take 2 years to GT6...what u wanna do with that?release it on the Ps3 and make it the "swan song" for the PS3?or a lauch title for PS4?but i hate the fact that we only got 1 GT for PS3...its all so hard!:D

For a game of its caliber, it is. It's far less than the >$100 million for GTAIV and FFXIII. Plus it's likely GT5P already paid for most if not all of that. Given that Sony publishes the game and doesn't have to pay royalties to themselves, plus there are no retailer margins on titles sold on PSN, they've probably made at least $20 on average per copy of GT5P sold. That's almost 80 million. |
excuse me?
source?

I have confidence that KY will know how to implement a good damage engine, he's a pefectionist ;)

I find it hard to believe GT5 cost only $60 mill. Im thinking $100 mill. These representatives often intentionally lowball the costs when they talk to media.
10 million copies will bring in at least $300 million in revenue.

I'm trying to find a source for that, but I seem unable to do so. Seems I was mistaken about the number having been made available to the public.
But i wouldn't be surprised, given even FFXII had a budget of $40 million.
This is Square's biggest title. They have had the bulk of the company grinding away on this game for over five years now. The CGI cutscenes in the game alone probably put the budgets of movies like the Spirits Within to shame.

If only we could see what was showcased "in private" during TGS (If I remember well)
let's hope PD is somehow holding back good news ...
Time to Work !
100 million to make GTA and FF13? And to think for 60 million PD actually made a "good" game ;)
