For some reason I'm not confident about this one.

This is definitely a big gamble on Square-Enix's part; they haven't released an experimental game like this on a Nintendo system in a long time. Like I said though, the bigger sales of this game will come from America, depending on how well it is hyped.
30K first week

It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Whew, predictions are all over the place. Many say it will do fine, others say it will bomb. The 30/40 score from Famitsu does cool expectations somewhat, but even then their review wasn't negative at all. In fact, it was fairly favorable. I think it's best to predict that it'll be a moderate success at best.
If this is how SE targets the West, then SE needs to take some tips from Nintendo and Capcom about the sort of content Western audiences relate to. The main character may be an "rugged, mature hero" by Japanese game standards, but he still just looks like a boy by Western standards.
Edit: Of course, it's the wacky enemies that really make the game hard to relate to
